DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the attending faculty physician/surgeon, the incumbent is responsible for the care of heart failure, transplant and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Provides clinical assistance and support in treating and managing patients and acts as a key member of the multidisciplinary heart failure, heart transplant and MCS team. Evaluates patients in all phases of the care continuum, including history and physical, patient preparation, procedures, medical management and post-operative care. Solves complex clinical problems and communicates directly with attending physician, fellows and resident. Acts as consultant and liaison for patients and their families with attending physicians, house staff, social services, care management, transplant office, financial and administrative staff and nursing. Provides teaching to patients, staff, post-acute care partners and community organizations as necessary. Designated expert resource person on the basis of advanced clinical expertise in patient care for heart failure, heart transplant and MCS patients. Assigned more complex cases requiring the use of advanced skills and typically works with greater independence.

One position is located primarily in Bankers Hill, and one position is primarily located in La Jolla.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.

  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.

  • Minimum two (2) years of full-time experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP).

  • Experience in cardiac patient care and triage expertise to identify and implement clinical interventions.

  • Proficiency in complete care of the cardiac patient.

  • Ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

  • Ability to maintain detailed medical information in an organized and easily retrievable manner. Knowledge of operating room standards and techniques. Knowledge necessary for instructing housestaff, medical students, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel in all aspects of surgical care. Knowledge of all types of treatment and modalities necessary for the patients care and well-being.

  • Ability to properly counsel patients and families, particularly in delicate or death and dying situations. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel. Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the health care team.

  • Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures and protocols for patient care management.

  • Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.

  • Skill in interpreting lab test results commonly used in the clinical area.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2+) or more years of outpatient cardiology experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours (including weekends) and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain them during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years.
  • Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $167,687 - $234,649 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $80.31 - $112.38

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
