First Merchants Bank is seeking a Business Banking Underwriter II. This position will provide credit risk assessment support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • 1Review credit data to evaluate the Business Banking Center's commercial loan requests in order to approve or deny applications within individual lending authority (up to $250,000).
  • Analyze sources of financial information, such as tax returns, financial statements, credit bureaus, and other sources.
  • Order and review appraisals, evaluations and environmental assessments.
  • Review and recommend proper structure for commercial loans based on financial strength and loan purpose.

    • Complete trigger database business banking monitoring:
    • Spread and review financial data
    • Assist in management of database
    • Review triggers generated for validity
    • Request financial information where needed
    • Report concerns to management and Business Banking and/or Relationship Managers.


  • Establish and maintain good working relationship with Business Banking Officers.
  • Attend sales calls with Business Banking Officers as requested.


In order to be successful in this position, the following is required:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of commercial lending or related experience.


The following would be a plus:



  • Training in OMEGA, RMA or other commercial lending courses.
