Senior Personnel Investigator

Cherokee Accelerated Solutions (CAS) is seeking a Senior Personnel Investigator to support the Human Capital Office's (HCO) Employment investigation services responsibilities. The Senior Personnel Investigator will be assigned work as needed. GAO currently estimates involvement in thirty (30) investigations per year, averaging twenty-four to thirty-two (24-32) hours per week, with the potential to travel one to three (1-3) times a year. The Senior Personnel Investigator's work involves developing and presenting complex, sensitive, and sometimes controversial written documents and exhibits in final form using GAO's document management system and web-based tools. The work does not typically involve investigations of criminal activities.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Senior Personnel Investigator: $45-$50 per hour

Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

Senior Personnel Investigator Responsibilities Include:



  • Provide Investigation services of employment issues on behalf of GAO management

    • Cases assigned may involve individual employees, consolidated cases, and possibly class complaints
    • Investigations might include but would not be limited to: workplace conduct issues, dealing with unacceptable performance, suitability, reasonable accommodation, Workers Compensation (as defined under by applicable Federal law/regulation)

  • Participate in monthly meetings with our office of Security and Employee Relations and Benefits Center as needed
  • Conduct internet and telephonic research wherever possible
  • Travel to perform investigations, as necessary
  • Proficient in shifting work priorities and deadlines for activities and deliverables
  • Ability to collaborate with staff from Office of Inspector General and the General Counsel
  • Conduct routine and recurring reviews and inquiries
  • Compliant with applicable Federal laws and regulations and GAO orders (Internal GAO regulations/policies)
  • Develop reports of investigations and statements of interviewed parties
  • Develop proposals for performance and conduct-based actions
  • Develop decision letters, reprimands, counseling letters, and suitability notices, as well as engaging in direct communications with managers, employees, and their representatives consistent with GAO guidance and protocols
  • Maintain a neutral and independent perspective

    • Parties being interviewed may be represented by union officials or counsel

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Senior Personnel Investigator Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Minimum five (5) years of full-time experience in the field with substantial knowledge and experience in conducting personnel investigations
  • Minimum five (5) years of direct experience in applying Federal civil service personnel laws, EEO, labor laws, with focus on Title 4 and/or Title 5 of the F.R
  • Worked in the field within the last five (5) years
  • Demonstrate outstanding level of professionalism
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, discretion, tact, and diplomacy
  • Sound business ethics including the protection of highly proprietary and confidential information
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff
  • Superior Interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism, and cooperative attitude.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
