Position Highlights |
The Carpenter, reporting to the Shop Superintendent, is responsible for constructing, repairing, restoring and installing structural woodwork and related materials, including casement furnishings and furniture, in university dorms. The position requires driving University vehicles and/or golf carts.

Duties & Responsibilities |
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Repair including but not limited to furniture, cabinetry, casement furnishings, walls, and other structural elements in dorms.
- Design, estimate, fabricate and install including but not limited to solid surface counter tops, solid surface shower surrounds, tile shower pans and wall/floor tile repairs.
- Design, estimate, fabricate and install cabinetry and similar furnishings; includes finish carpentry repair, refurbishing and installation.
- Repair and/or install doors and windows; including automatic doors; retrofit of equipment.
- Perform rough-in construction and related modifications to interior spaces, per applicable codes.
- Perform facility inspections, document work request activity and related requests.
- Operate and maintain related equipment and tools.
- Lead and supervise the work of assigned staff and students.
- Maintain carpentry inventory, tools, and equipment.
- Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Housing & Residential Life and University goals and objectives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials common to the carpentry trade.
- Knowledge of cabinet making techniques.
- Knowledge in fabricating solid surface counter tops.
- Skill in the construction, repair, restoration, and installation of wood or related materials.
- Skill in estimating time and material requirements of work projects assigned.
- Ability to effectively communicate.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required. In addition to the education and experience minimum qualifications, Apprenticeship program, technical training experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Completion of a four year federally approved technical training program in carpentry;
Journeyman level position. OR, Six years carpentry experience, OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
