Job Summary

The Engineering Technical Specialist is responsible for the management of critical Management of Change (MOC)documentation and records. Oversees and coordinates the flow of documentation between archives, Avient Protective Materials Project Leads and external engineering resources. Provides oversight of all drawings and standards. The Specialist will be a subject matter expert with regards to AutoCad system, document control, IP/MOC, and SAP for the site.. Performs the oversite and administration of the IP and MOC committee meeting and decisions taken for the Greenville and Mesa sites. Performs complex administrative duties, while providing support to all change leaders on site in the field and office. Assignments generally involve work of a confidential nature and requires a thorough knowledge of engineering practices and procedures of the function, company products, policies and programs.

The Engineering Technical Specialist will operate within the organizational structure to provide support engineering, maintenance and reliability groups for Avient Protective Materials in Greenville, Stanley and Mesa sites. The person in this role will interact with all staff and global colleagues. They will a high level understand of engineering concepts and terminology. They will have knowledge of drafting/engineering practices and methods. They will have knowledge and demonstrate use of US National CAD standards and provide direction to engineering staff on subject. Knowledge of AutoCad, SAP, Adobe Acrobat, MS Access, MS Word, MS Excel required. Knowledge of Solidworks desirable.. They will have knowledge of plant and equipment specifications. They will have knowledge of construction techniques and job-site requirements. They will have knowledge of multiple engineering subjects to include mechanical, electrical, chemical and civil engineering. They will maintain documentation and conduct audits on these systems. This person will be recognized as the subject matter expert on Autocad, drawings and documents of record archives, other documentation, administrative policies and procedures and will interpret guidelines for others.

Essential Functions

Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
  5. Manage and oversee a Avient Protective Materials compliant document management system for archival of engineering documentation.
  6. Manage and oversee a Avient Protective Materials compliant document management system for archival of SHE and production records which will be maintained by others.
  7. Manage and oversee site Improve Plant and MOC processes and documentation.
  8. Facilitate Improve Plant and MOC committee meetings.
  9. Oversite of annual non-capex budget.
  10. Manage and oversee Temporary Change Management documentation and process.
  11. Subject matter expert for management/oversite of drawings, standards and software.
  12. Maintain filing system and retention policy for all Engineering documentation. Ensures Avient Protective Materials Engineering and production records are maintained properly and per the established records retention policy.
  13. Control and monitor distribution of confidential Engineering documents.
  14. Update equipment documentation for changes initiated via MOC including AutoCAD updates of existing plant drawings and mechanical catalog information.
  15. Assist Project Leads in field with redline drawings, sketches and measurements.
  16. Issue and maintain catalog, drawing, valve, and line/piping numbers to insure against duplication.
  17. Make prints and PDF files of drawings for use by others. Ex. P&IDs utilized for LOTOTO during production STOPs
  18. Verify completeness of all design packages received from LCP, SP or other MOC activities.
  19. Maintain supplies and insure working order of Engineering plotters, printers and other design tools.
  20. Provide direction to contract or intern resources working with drawings and documentation.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Enter updates to drawings, lists, mechanical catalogs and master archives.
  2. Temporary Change Management records
  3. Enter purchase requisitions into SAP.
  4. Direct influence of others with regards to accuracy and standards for archival information.

Education and Experience



  • BS degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Construction/Project Management with 1-4 years experience, AS degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Construction/Project Management plus 5 years' experience in multiple engineering fields such as mechanical, electrical, chemical and civil or High school graduate plus 10 years' experience in multiple engineering fields such as mechanical, electrical, chemical and civil.
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to changing needs.
  • Direct, coordinate, influence levels above management without specific authority.
  • Ability to utilize automated systems for document control.
  • Experience overseeing and managing critical documentation systems..
  • Proficient in database administration desired.
  • Advanced capability with Microsoft Access and Excel
  • High proficiency in CAD software desired. AutoCAD preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications.
  • Knowldege of SAP, Solidworks, and Microsoft Projects .


Complexity of the Job

The Engineering Technical Specialist will interact with all staff locally within Avient Protective Materials, globally within Avient Protective Materials, and Corporate APM. Oversight, decisions and actions will impact Avient Protective Materials with regards to official/master engineering drawings and documentation.

  • Generally requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, hard hat, respiratory protection.
