Overview

Responsible for management of the health system self-pay receivable portfolio, patient accounts customer service, and cash management departments. This includes collections, bad debt, and financial assistance programs, patient accounts customer service, payer and patient cash posting and reconciliation, and credit balances oversight. Ensures all work processes are performed in a compliant fashion. Adapts to and supports corporate initiatives that impact the Patient Financial Services functions. Provides subject matter expertise; plans, coordinates, and directs all activities associated with areas of responsibility. Is accountable for protecting the accounts receivable asset by ensuring that contemporary processes and systems are utilized that promote strong cash collections, minimizes bad debt and provides excellent patient experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Related Field

Work Experience:

  • Accounts receivable leadership - 5 years
  • Healthcare leadership - 5 years

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Highly proficient in healthcare management, administrative, and operating principles and practices:
  • Technology, regulations, and laws pertaining to management of account receivables, customer service, and cash management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels in the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including but not limited to: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to oversee and direct project activities, assign work, monitor work, an evaluate performance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures operations of all departmental functions according to approved policies
  • Acts in accordance with all State, federal, industry, and applicable accreditation standards.
  • Directs and manages self-pay receivables
  • Ensure accounts are collected appropriately and from patients and applicable payer sources.
  • Implements and monitors the operation of financial assistance programs, and bad debt portfolio.
  • Directs the processing of payer remittance, patient payments, undistributed, and credits as accurate and balances on a daily basis
  • Meets standard accounting standards of reporting.
  • Oversees and develops a high functioning patient billing, customer service and cash management teams
  • Oversees managers and supervisor levels that support delegation and oversight.
  • Provides leadership, vision, and management to assigned department (s).
  • Sets departmental strategic direction and goals and develops appropriate tactical plans.
  • Monitors employee performance
  • Ensures timely communications for the purpose of goal setting, performance evaluations, wage increases and continued personnel actions.
  • Develops, analyzes, and manages capital and operating budget (s) within agreed upon standards.
  • Oversees the development, review, and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains an active relationship with vendors
  • Support the overall workflows and procedures utilized by patient financial services.
  • Ensures the overall objectives relating to the Carle Experience are achieved.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $51.41per hour - $88.43per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
