About the Opportunity
The primary purpose of the Director of Engineering Services is to lead, coach, schedule and supervise employees who are part of the Studio Engineering team, including engineering support for productions and production support vehicles, as well as lead the emergency response operation functions for PBSNC's PBS Media Services that includes implementing and monitoring new technologies by utilizing datacasting through PBSNC's broadcast signal for a variety of services.

This position will work onsite at the Bryan Center in Research Triangle Park, NC. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

About the Team
The PBS North Carolina
Engineering Services Department oversees the operation and maintenance of
studio production infrastructure, web streaming equipment and feeds, field
engineering services including video feed delivery, live coverage of Emergency
Operations events, and the transmission of studio feeds and data across the
statewide broadcast network.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
A bachelor's degree in engineering, broadcast, communications, management, journalism, or a related field is preferred, along with eight to ten years of relevant experience. However, an equivalent combination of education and/or extensive experience in the area of assignment will be considered. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, Certifications and/or Experience
Strong knowledge of IT hardware
and software interfaces for the broadcast and production television
environments.-Knowledge of technical layout and security systems design
from an engineering perspective-Excellent troubleshooting
capabilities-Ability to read, interpret, and apply FCC, Public
Telecommunications Facilities Program (PTFP)/National Telecommunications
and Information Administration (NTIA), Bureau of Land Management (BLM),
Public Broadcasting Services (PBS), and CCSD rules and
regulations.-Strong ability to communicate effectively verbally and in
writing to convey complex ideas on highly technical and innovative
topics to a diverse audience internally and externally.-Ability to
develop and maintain positive working relations within the department
and the organization and with external agencies the ability to create
consensus and model diplomacy and tact in dealing with others to achieve
results.-Strong mathematical skills to develop proposals and budgets as
well as to provide in depth analysis and evaluation of internal and
external projects and proposals.- High degree of perception in
originating and implementing new concepts, plans, policies and projects.
