What You Will Do:

As a Gas Storage Plant Operator, you will play an essential role within our CINGSA facility, reporting to the Director of Gas Storage Plant Operations. The Gas Storage Plant Operator provides relief, on-call, off-hours oversight, monitoring, and daily operating of CINGSA gas storage equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient manner.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:



  • Operate gas storage equipment (e.g., reciprocating compressors, engines, dehydration units, regeneration units, filtration, etc.) and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair process problems and identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
  • Monitor and control plant and field processing conditions utilizing PLC control systems.
  • Monitor and optimize gas well and pipeline operations.
  • Monitor Mercaptan injection rates and pumps.
  • Maintain superior housekeeping standards throughout the plant process and control room areas.
  • Responsible for routine maintenance and the coordination of contractor maintenance activities including oversite of Drill Site / Workover manager.
  • Perform and coordinate minor maintenance as well as safety activities, including hazard identification, equipment lockout, emergency response, and implementing safe work procedures, etc.
  • Comply with environmental and safety regulatory requirements (e.g., spills, first aid, SPCC, etc.) and responsible for implementing corrective action if required.
  • Ensure effective communication with central gas control, maintenance, and management staff.
  • Maintain proper documentation including operator log, maintenance records, and safety and environment reports.
  • Monitor readings from the pipeline, fuel gas, well pressure readings, EOM reports, and annulus monitoring.
  • Perform well tests supervised by the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (AOGCC).
  • Monitor and Operate the Surface Safety Valves and Subsurface Safety Valves installed on CINGSA's storage wells.
  • Obtain samples and test water-slop tanks, separators, TEG, engine oil, and boilers.
  • Monitor Tank and vessel levels and properly dispose of wastes Exempt / NON-Exempt, Hazardous / Non-Hazardous, and universal.
  • Operate two Caterpillar G3608 engines.
  • Operate and monitor the gas-fired Cat & Generac generators and switchgear.
  • Use radios and telephones for communications.
  • Monitor and operate the glycol reboilers.
  • Prepare wells for wireline or coil tubing work.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and correct operation of a gas pipeline system.
  • Atmospheric monitoring and corrections.
  • Troubleshoot, test, maintain, and repair pipeline equipment which may include valves, operators, and filtration systems.
  • Perform periodic inspections, complete maintenance records, service reports, and other requirements in accordance with CFR 192, RP1171, AOGCC SIO #9.
  • Accountable for purchasing engineered materials and equipment in support of CINGSA operations.
  • Work in cooperation with Inventory Control and Warehouse personnel to resolve JDE reports, inspection, and receiving issues.
  • Accountable for:

    • Purchasing
    • Requesting and receiving purchase orders.
    • Recording Purchases in the PO Tracker
    • Selecting potential bidders; preparing Requests for Quotes (RFQ).
    • Price negotiations.
    • Expediting critical project materials for timely delivery to final destination.


  • Work with Suppliers, Manufacturers, Transportation Carriers, Warehouse Personnel, Material Coordinators, Project Managers, Construction Managers, Project Planners, and Engineering to ensure material requesters receive the correct materials by the required need dates.
  • Maximize procurement cost savings related specifically to competitive bids, payment terms, and transportation.
  • Participate on the Incident Command System (ICS) Team in support of materials purchasing, transportation, and logistics.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Regulatory and Quality Control processes and procedures.
  • Ensure no unsatisfactory Audit Finding related to materials procurement or procurement records.
  • Complete all required regulatory training as identified.
  • Manage the CINGSA inventory controls, records, and warehouse contents.
  • Work overtime and night shift; be on call as required.
  • Participate in training as required.
  • Ability to identify and report Abnormal Operating Condition's for pipelines, compressors, and storage field equipment.
  • Operate Various pieces of equipment such as but not limited to Forklift, Loader, Manlift, Zoom Boom, Overhead Crane, Pumps, Light Plants, Power Plants, High pressure grease gun, Plow truck, Bobcat and attachments such as auger, snow blower and brush hog.
  • Line locate and follow High pressure Standby procedures.
  • Assemble flow back Iron and Choke assemblies and have the ability to operate a choke system.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.



What You Will Bring:

Required Qualifications



  • Five or more years of relevant work experience.
  • One-year gas processing experience or equivalent preferred.
  • Must reside within 30 minutes' drive time from the CINGSA plant site (Soldotna-Kenai area).
  • Experience demonstrating confidence and ability to work with minimal to no supervision.
  • Operational and maintenance experience in gas compression, dehydration, pipelines, gas well equipment preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Alaska driver's license and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a background, past employment, credit, drug, and driving record screening.



Preferred skills and qualifications:



  • Journeyman electrical license preferred, but not required.
  • Process Instrumentation degree or some familiarity preferred, but not required.
  • PLC programming or some familiarity preferred, but not required.
  • Good working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the ENSTAR, specifically in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to learn new systems or software packages, as necessary.
  • Ability to learn and apply requirements of J.D. Edwards software System.
  • Must be knowledgeable and experienced or have the ability to learn and apply knowledge of purchasing and expediting "Gas Pipeline" related engineered materials. Must be knowledgeable with all forms of Inter-Modal Transportation Carriers (surface, rail, sea, air) to and from Alaska.
  • Should possess a basic understanding of well performance and reservoir operations.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and is open to take on a variety of operational & maintenance challenges.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as listening skills.
