Description The Chief of Staff is responsible for assisting the President & CEO ("CEO") with coordination of executive priorities and implementation of operational and strategic objectives. The Chief of Staff serves as an adviser on institutional matters that have the attention of the CEO and his direct reports. The position develops tools for monitoring performance of the organization and assists with annual review of performance for the institution and manages the annual review for the CEO and his/her/their direct reports. This position is also charged with engaging the executive leadership team to ensure integration with CEO and the Board of Directors. This role is charged with driving implementation of strategic priorities in conjunction with the CEO.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
Master's Degree in Business, Health Administration or a related field (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
10 years At least ten years of progressively more responsible financial and management experience in a health care setting, (preferably within a health system). (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Senior Level Support to the President & CEO ("CEO")



  • Serve as adviser to the CEO on a range of issues in the domain of the CEO .


  • Serve to vet and sort issues to understand and prioritize CEO involvement and awareness.


  • Gather critical information for decision making and prepare recommendations for the CEO.


  • Act to increase the bandwidth and velocity of the CEO in such a way as to concentrate his or her time, effort and priorities on strategic initiatives.


  • Serve as "Ambassador" for the CEO, buffering communication with other members of the strategic team in cases where there are sensitive issues. Take initial meetings with outside parties for screening purposes or as a representative of the Office of the President for greater accessibility.


  • Monitor progress on institutional priorities and prepare action items to drive progress toward key priorities. Serve as an expeditor of prioritized tasks, as identified by the CEO, by facilitating and expediting action plans.


  • Lead ad hoc and standing committees (CEO Direct Report Status Meetings, Management Staff and Leadership Council) and task forces as a representative of the CEO around strategic and operational priorities.


  • Represent the CEO in meetings when the CEO is unavailable.


  • Serve as "executive-on-demand" to provide additional support to CEO direct reports. Assist with annual review of executive performance and development of individual and corporate goals.


  • Facilitate executive management agenda planning.


  • Develop board and senior management level presentations.


Executive Communications



  • Develop the narrative and voice of the CEO; collaborate with Corporate Marketing to develop key messages and thought leadership.


  • Approve all communication under the signature of the CEO.


  • Responsible for the content and messaging of all CEO presentations and communications. Coordinate with the communications team on the development and execution of the communications: Internal organization-wide messages; Key executive announcements; External thought leadership and community speaking engagements; All CEO presentations to the boards and committees of the boards.


Project Management and Strategic Initiatives



  • Lead, coordinate, and/or implement critical projects that cross departmental lines and that are critical to attainment of institutional objectives.


  • Act on the authority of the Office of the President to oversee strategic projects with a primary focus on initiatives affecting the priorities of particular concern or value to the CEO that typically require cross functional resource allocation.


  • Collaborate with and, at times, support the Chief Strategy Officer on key issues and initiatives.


  • Work with the CEO to identify strategic priorities and mobilize personnel resources around these priorities. Facilitate progress by engaging senior management to direct resources as needed.


  • Lead projects and special initiatives of strategic or opportunistic value/importance to the Office of the President.


  • Participate in the planning and execution of broader strategic efforts across the organization.


Other



  • Lead key executive searches as needed; serve on all search committee for direct reports of the CEO.


  • Manage the budget and staffing of the Office of President.


  • Work closely with government affairs, department of philanthropy, marketing, PR and Communications where their functions have significant influence in the execution of strategic and corporate strategy, particularly directed by CEO priorities.
