GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Process Improvement Intern will analyze and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in the production process by identifying inefficiencies, proposing corrective actions, and implementing sustainable solutions.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION
- Gain a basic understanding of the current process flow.
- Assess the impact of recently implemented automation, analyzing Return on Investment (ROI) and productivity improvements.
- Evaluate equipment effectiveness to enhance performance and reduce defects or rework in product.
- Analyze unplanned downtime and identify strategies to improve equipment uptime.
- Complete data collection and statistical analysis for process improvements.
- Develop, recommend, and present action plan(s) and benefits based on analytical results.
- Intern's work time will be approximately 80% on the shop floor and 20% in an office.
- Create and deliver a final presentation to the colleagues and leadership team of Dole Fresh Vegetables.
- Other duties as assigned
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
- Summer 2025, 12-week internship
- 100% onsite (not a remote internship)
- Pay Rate: $20 - $22 per hour
- No relocation or housing assistance provided
Required Skills
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Process improvement experience is strongly preferred, especially Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, TQM or Kaizen
- Advanced Excel skills
- Statistical analysis skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on, team-oriented food-processing environment
- Valid drivers license and use of reliable personal transportation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, identify and distinguish colors, and work in a cold environment (35o on Plant floor).
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Full time, 40-hour workweek
- No overtime expected
- No travel expected
Required Experience
EDUCATION LEVEL AND FIELDS OF STUDY
- Fall 2025 rising Senior or graduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or related field
