SUMMARY

The Calibration Technician is responsible for the advanced calibration, maintenance, and repair of critical equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This position involves diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues, executing precise calibration procedures, and maintaining equipment accuracy in compliance with established standards traceable to NIST. The Calibration Technician is responsible for maintaining up-to-date calibration records in Gagetrak, ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards for reporting and documentation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Perform precise calibration of a broad array of equipment and instruments, covering various physical magnitudes based on the specific requirements of the products and operations.
  1. Conduct calibrations on equipment according to the specified Strattec scope
  2. Drive and participate in projects aimed at reducing costs by transitioning external calibration services to internal capabilities.
  3. Ensure equipment meets specified performance standards and remains within required tolerances.
  4. Follow the calibration instructions that are aligned with NIST to guarantee accuracy and compliance.
  5. Use the Gagetrak system to schedule and prioritize gauge calibrations, ensuring timely completion and minimizing downtime.
  6. Perform regular maintenance on gages to prevent wear and ensure consistent performance. Where necessary, manage or execute repairs to gages that are out of tolerance or experiencing a malfunction, ensuring that adjusted tools are recalibrated and returned to service with appropriate traceability.
  7. Contribute to special projects by recommending equipment based on the process requirements.
  8. Manage and coordinate external calibrations with third-party suppliers, ensuring that calibration services are scheduled and completed on time.
  9. Track and monitor the status of newly purchased equipment, ensuring timely delivery, proper installation, and calibration. Verify that equipment meets specifications, coordinating with suppliers and internal teams as needed.
  10. Ensure all calibration data is properly documented, filed electronically, and traceable via assigned control numbers in the calibration management system.
  11. Perform Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) studies and other measurement system analysis (MSA) tasks, using tools such as Gagetrak, Minitab, and Excel, to validate the accuracy and consistency of calibration equipment.
  12. Participate in internal and external audits as required to ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and other applicable standards.
  13. Proactively monitor equipment calibration due dates and communicate with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely recalibration and prevent equipment from becoming obsolete or inactive.
  14. Adhere to the company's calibration quality management system to ensure all calibration practices, processes, and procedures are correctly applied and aligned with quality standards.
  15. Regularly assess the calibration scope to ensure it meets current operational requirements and industry standards.
  16. Track and verify that calibration suppliers maintain valid ISO/IEC 17025 certifications, ensuring their compliance with industry standards.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Install new or repaired equipment or parts as required, ensuring proper calibration and functionality upon installation.
  • Perform regular testing, calibration, and monitoring of equipment to maintain operational accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Troubleshoot equipment when test results fall outside of expected ranges and take corrective actions to resolve issues.
  • Perform repairs on calibration equipment as needed to restore functionality and prevent operational delays.
  • Order necessary parts for the repair or maintenance of calibration equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining inventory levels.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Prerequisites:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Relevant industry certification.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience as a calibration technician.
  • Extensive experience with equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Competency with calibration software.

Skills & Competencies:

Knowledge of calibration procedures, measurement systems, and industry standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI, JIS).

Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills related to calibration.

Proficiency in using calibration management software (GageTrack) and statistical tools (e.g., Minitab, Excel).

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to document calibration results accurately.

Experience with a wide range of calibration equipment and physical magnitudes (force, temperature, mass, pressure, electrical, etc.).

Strong understanding of quality control and safety standards in calibration processes.

Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
