Cox's Outside Plant Engineering & Construction department is responsible for building the network of the future our customers rely on for both residential and business needs. Coaxial Splicer I is an entry-level role responsible for the installation of active and passive devices within the Cox HFC network. This role requires basic interpretations of network design diagrams related to coax network components. This position will require the candidate to perform splicing of coax network devices located on construction sites.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Installs and repair equipment within the HFC distribution system including customer premises.
  • Splices and activates overhead/underground coaxial cables including assembly of equipment per the design print, cutting and preparing the required coaxial cable prior to splicing.
  • Responds to issues identified by network performance tools. Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves any associated issues.
  • Performs troubleshooting activities to repair coax passive equipment and coaxial cable issues.
  • Perform tap and end-of-line RF level checks to identify and verify tap RF levels meet Cox's specifications.
  • Utilizes test equipment and other diagnostic tools.
  • Capable of utilizing coax splicing hand tools in a safe and appropriate manner. Ensuring that all needed tools and equipment are available at the job site.
  • Performs quality assurance field checks for new coax network activation.
  • Reads and interprets system prints including system design maps and digital drawings.
  • Reconciles all issued parts and material daily to ensure accurate material usage.
  • Completes daily production reports and provide status information throughout the day.
  • Required to mark-up maps, track work hours and complete "as-built maps" for areas built.


Physical requirements:

  • Required to lift a minimum of 75lbs.
  • Requires working outdoors 80%.
  • Capable of handling and work off an extension ladder in various conditions and heights. Required to climb utility poles, use ladders, and utilize truck-mounted lift bucket.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Generally less than 2 years' experience in a related field (i.e. Construction, coaxial splicing, testing, and troubleshooting, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization and external vendors.
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver's license required


Preferred

  • Experience in telecommunications industry desired.
  • Strong knowledge of CATV or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in telecommunications infrastructure construction.
  • Participation in SCTE and related certifications.
  • Data analysis recommendation.
  • Computer Skills, and ability to navigate workflow tools.


USD 23.65 - 35.48 per hour

Compensation:

Hourly base pay rate is $23.65 - $35.48/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits:

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
