Position Overview for Director of Finance

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Director of Finance to lead our financial operations and drive long-term business success. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis. This position will involve working closely with senior leadership to guide financial decision-making, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and support the overall growth and profitability of the organization. The Director of Finance will also manage a team of financial professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Strong leadership, analytical skills and extensive experience in financial management are essential for this role.

Shift & Compensation

Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week

Combination of office-based and remote work (hybrid)

Salary range: $165k to $170k

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Establishes or advises management on major accounting strategies, objectives, and policies for the Agency.
  • Responsible for the direct management of the Controller and Grants Manager and their respective areas of responsibilities of Finance, General Accounting, Grants Accounting, A/P, and Payroll functions.
  • Participates in the preparation of the Agency's Annual Budgets, reviews budget proposals, directs annual budget training, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
  • Prepares interim and ad hoc reports that summarize and forecast Agency business activity and financial position in the areas of income, expenses, budget variances and cash flow based on past, present, and future operations.
  • Oversees monthly financial statement preparation.
  • Provides CFO and department managers with timely reviews of the Agency's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • In conjunction with the CFO and Controller, manages the external annual audit process.
  • In conjunction with the CFO and Controller, maintain accurate balance sheet accounts, including all relevant supporting documentation.
  • Recommends modifications to existing financial (software) programs and/or implementation of new (software) programs.
  • Directs preparation of annual depreciation schedules for capital assets including additions and disposals.
  • Prepares reports required by the Jewish Federation, external regulatory agencies and Grant Foundations.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships and all treasury services with banks and other financial institutions, including but not limited to, Agency bank accounts, credit card accounts, endowment funds, etc.
  • Responsible for arranging for and/or providing appropriate ongoing training, support and education to Agency staff.
  • Keeps informed of current developments, trends and practices to facilitate the overall success of the Agency's financial efforts.
  • Prepare documents and other presentation materials for use by the Board of Directors, as directed by the CFO.


Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent; and seven (7) to ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven managerial experience.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office, accounting software and ERP system.
  • Non-Profit experience preferred
  • HUD subsidized residential experience preferred
  • CPA Preferred
