GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Lead Expert, Communications is responsible for the strategic direction, brand positioning, and execution of EDP Renewables North America's (EDPR NA's) corporate communications, external and internal communications, media relations, and digital communications.

Main Responsibilities:



  • Oversees Corporate Communications, Internal and External Communications, Digital Communications, and Media Relations and works with the Communications team on strategy and plan execution for these areas
  • Elevates the company's 80+ project brands in various North American (NA) markets through the coordination of paid and earned media, events, social investments, digital advertising, and email marketing
  • Standardizes communications processes and procedures for the company, maintaining brand quality and consistency
  • Coordinate closely with EDP's global Communications and Brand teams to ensure consistency on global campaigns, corporate messages, and brand visibility
  • Spearheads media relations strategy and plan, including managing an editorial calendar, amplifying all Corporate- and project-related news and milestones via traditional and social media channels, and liaising with two Public Relations firms on retainer to execute company's media strategy.
  • Serves as the company's primary spokesperson, responsible for coordinating all proactive and reactive corporate- and project-level media interactions
  • Oversees content management for the company's NA-focused websites, social media pages, collateral library, and intranet
  • Oversees all aspects of EDPR NA's internal events (Annual Gatherings, Town Hall Meetings, Directors' Meetings, Holiday Parties, and other events) including program development, accommodations, site selection, venue set up and breakdown, invitations, photography, decor, catering, and other responsibilities
  • Works in close association with Marketing on various business development and business- to-business efforts
  • Strategizes and closely collaborates with global Communications and Investor Relations to ensure all North American public-facing communications are aligned with global strategy and rules/regulations
  • Directly supports the Management Team in writing and editing speeches, talking points, and presentations for various internal and external communications, including but not limited to Town Hall speeches, press release quotes, and interview talk talking points
  • Coordinates the work of others on the Communications team through effective leadership and coaching, with an emphasis on the team's professional developmen
  • Works with the Senior Director, Government and Public Affairs to determine and manage annual budget for communication activities



  • Collaborates with the Community Relations team to support necessary communication efforts in project communities
  • Collaborates with industry associations and aligned non-governmental organizations on sector-wide initiatives
  • Responds to requests for company information
  • Additional duties as required


Travel: ~10%

Schedule: Full-Time, Remote or Hybrid Schedule

Minimum qualifications:





    • Bachelor's degree in Communication or a related field
    • 6+ years in a communications function, including experience collaborating with, and presenting to, senior management
    • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products preferred. Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise preferred

Physical demands & working conditions:





    • Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment;
    • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form;
    • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds;
    • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form;
    • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary.
