Position Purpose:

Leads, develops, organizes, and administers effective and efficient sales and stop loss operations, including securing and analyzing stop loss quotes, reporting, underwriting, and sales to provide self-funded accounts with services in accordance with contracts, laws, and regulations. This individual will develop and maintain relationships with brokers and stop loss carriers and develop product offerings to meet the unique needs of different geographic markets. Directs national self-funded sales and is responsible for growing/developing new revenue streams/account business through the launch of new products and services.

Location: This is a full-time position working (40-hours/week) in a typical office environment. You will work an 8-hour shift scheduled during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need to work occasional overtime. You may be required to travel between buildings. This role is located at: 17 Technology Circle, Columbia, SC 29203

What You Will Do:

  • Directs/leads the sales team for PAI's self-funded business. Responsible for the development of custom plans and sales strategies by negotiating with self-funded prospects and brokers. Works with brokers in new markets to analyze network needs to position PAI for success. Directs the stop loss team on securing quotes and producing proposals.
  • Responsible for ensuring the profitability of the business and its operations. Participates in the development of strategic plans and implements goals identified in strategic plans. Manages the budget and controls expenses allocated to the business to ensure cost effectiveness, performance quality, and profitability.
  • Leads, organizes, and develops staff. Ensures system and operational compliance. Establishes, guides and analyzes effectiveness of business operations against benchmarks that are developed as measures of success. Analyzes performance trends, develops new/modified work processes to improve overall operations quality, timeliness, customer satisfaction and financial outcomes. Directs the hiring, supervision, and training of staff.
  • Directs the sales processes and product offerings to increase/retain business and existing accounts. Provides account financial/underwriting analysis review and consultation. Oversees the completion of Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

To Qualify for This Position, You Will Need:

  • Bachelors in a job-related field.
  • Work Experience: 7 years of successful self-funded sales and service experience and/or health insurance underwriting; 4 years of the 7 years must have been in a management role.
  • Skills and Abilities: Thorough understanding of issues and trends related to healthcare insurance industry, including competitive landscape capabilities, plan offerings, and market strategies.
  • Ability to develop a 3-5 year strategic vision to support PAI's self-funded membership growth.
  • Strong knowledge of stop loss policies and procedures. Strong understanding of reimbursement methodologies, provider contracting/payment principles, and value-based provider arrangements.
  • Understanding of pharmacy contracting trends, and the ability to analyze financial impacts of Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) arrangements on PAI's revenue.
  • Ability to partner effectively with key stakeholders and leaders (sales, account management, operations, etc.) in evolving a strategic vision for self-funded growth. Excellent organizational, budget management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment with a capacity of communicating with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to persuade, negotiate, or influence others.
  • Software and Other Tools: Microsoft Office.
  • Licenses and Certificates: South Carolina Department of Insurance Producer license (must be obtained within 3 months of hire if not currently licensed in South Carolina)

We Prefer That You Have the Following:

  • Master's degree in business (MBA), public health (MPH), or a master's degree in a health care or financial field is strongly preferred
  • Work Experience: 10 years of successful self-funded sales and service experience and/or health insurance underwriting; 6 of the 10 years must have been in a management role; or at least 4 years of relevant experience in stop loss insurance sales/underwriting.
  • Skills and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of products, procedures, systems, claims payment policy.
