JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Center for Student Advising and Engagement in the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State is seeking a highly motivated, professional Academic Adviser. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working effectively with students from all cultural and economic backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic advising to a roster of pre-major students in the College of Health and Human Development at University Park.

  • Meet with other Penn State students who are exploratory and want to learn more about our college's programs.

  • Assisting in advising program development.

  • Suggest best practices for advising improvement.

  • Interpret university policies, procedures, and curriculum for students.

  • Make professional referrals.

  • Coordinate effectively with other department advisers.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records.

  • Document notes in the current university advising notes system (Starfish).

  • Provide academic advising services during New Student Orientation (NSO).

  • Represent the college at undergraduate recruitment events.

  • Understand and use the university student records system (LionPATH).

  • Assist with projects and undergraduate student success initiatives.

The final candidate will also assist with University and college-sponsored recruitment and retention initiatives including, but not limited to: NSO, Accepted Student Programs, Link UP, Spend a Summer Day, and Minors and Majors Night.

Qualifications:

Requires a Master's Degree or higher plus three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Location:

This position is physically located at Penn State's University Park campus and works in person the majority of the time.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
