Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) is seeking a Support Science Coordinator to support a NASA program. The selected candidate will facilitate the application of Earth Science data and products in two areas: 1) developing new arenas for use of ICESat-2 data, particularly in the land ice, sea ice, vegetation, hydrologic, atmospheric science and policy communities and 2) developing new arenas for use of global cryospheric information in support of policy and decision-making communities.

The Support Scientist Coordinator role is a critical role with the following key responsibilities:

Survey the existing landscape of end users of cryospheric data, including international, federal, state, and local agencies, as well as the private sector.

* Coordinating and engaging NASA data end users and organizations and building broad support for applications of ICESat-2 and cryospheric data.

* Guiding new users in their efforts to engage with science and data experts and associated personnel to assist with integration of data into their processes and systems.

* Providing support to GSFC in positioning ICESat-2 and other projects to support NASA Headquarters' Earth Science to Action Strategy.

* Providing information on and documentation of collaboration with different classes of users and communities and designing communication strategies to reach out to these new communities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. degree or equivalent in atmospheric, hydrospheric, biospheric, geophysics, oceanography or related physical science, mathematics or computer science or a related discipline and at least 10 years of experience working as a researcher with advanced research methods, and an understanding of mastery of numerical and computational tools or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in facilitation of Earth Science data and products support.
  • Strong written, editing and verbal communications skills to include writing and reviewing key fundamental documents.
  • Advanced understanding of research methods, mastery of numerical and computational tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to successfully lead multiple critical projects with competing priorities.
  • US Citizenship required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience organizing and evaluating and facilitating Earth Science data and products for performance efficacy and consistency.

  • Proficient in coordinating changes, developments, and improvements within the contributing partners to use the latest operational models and standards

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
