Salary: $4,315.00 - $5,505.00 monthly/$24.89 - $31.76 hourly non-PERS

$4,615.00 - $5,887.00 monthly/$26.63 - $33.96 hourly PERS

OYA welcomes you to join our exceptional team of Cooks at the Oak Creek Youth Correctional Facility!

OYA is hiring a permanent, full-time Supervising Cook to direct the daily operation of nutrition services at Oak Creek Youth Correctional Facility (OCYCF). This includes supervising three cooks and providing developmental opportunities to youth trainee workers. You will also provide technical knowledge, direction, instruction and assistance in regard to food preparation, menu planning, sanitation, Board of Health guidelines, federal regulations, food and supplies storage, purchasing and accommodating special diets, etc.

A Day In The Life:

  • Day to day operations of a youth facility kitchen

  • Supervision and support of staff

  • Ongoing compliance with federal and state food service guidelines.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • OYA facilities are tobacco free environments.

  • Shift work in a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation, with night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

  • Adhereto the dress code of the specific work site.

  • Frequent exposure to verbal abuse, threats, and dealing with impulsive, rebellious, assaultive youth.

  • Uses commercial cooking equipment (slicers, mixers, and choppers)

  • Use of computer and USDA approved software for menu developments, standardization of recipes, and nutrient analysis.

  • Theuse ofreasonable force in the performance of duties or during a disturbance or other emergency situation may be required.

  • Physical standards for vision, hearing, dexterity, push/pull, running, and jogging.

  • Transport youth as requested, and, if in a security position, operate state vehicles constantly.

What you need to Qualify:

  • Two years of cooking experience in an institution or commercial firm serving complete meals AND one year of experience overseeing a function in a food service facility or acting as a lead worker to kitchen staff.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position requires a food handler's card, must have the ability to obtain the appropriate county food handler's card within 30 days of hire.

  • Driver's License: Driving/travel is an essential function of the position. You must possess a valid Oregon Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
