Position Overview:The Quantitative Strategies Analyst serves a critical role in the success of the HEN trading platform. In this role, the Analyst will provide analysis and research on the core inputs and outputs of the HEN model. This will include pricing, demand, supply, and renewable trends that affect the market. The ideal candidate will provide insights and forecasts to support the company's trading, investment, and risk management strategies. Responsibilities:
- Algorithmic Bidding and Execution Modeling; Assist with modeling of quantitative strategies for Day Ahead and Real Time execution. Utilize internal and vendor input capabilities to drive improvements in Day-Ahead and Real-Time decision-making. Create analysis to monitor the drivers of energy and congestion for the HEN nodal profiles. Work with Energy Trader to create feedback, visualizations, and data necessary to monetize modeling outputs.
- Day Ahead and Real Time Forecasting: Assist in creating and/or utilizing the best internal and external forecasts for revenue maximization. Assist in creating models that derive bids and offers from forecasts used in Real Time execution. Create and utilize back-testing methodologies as feedback for improvement.
- Market Analytics: Conduct comprehensive analysis of power market fundamentals, including Load, Wind and Solar trends. Create analysis tools for dynamic, hourly granularity of grid conditions and how it affects the HEN portfolio. Monitor and analyze supply and demand fundamentals, generation capacity changes, fuel prices, and weather patterns.
- Market Insight: Analyze ERCOT market data, staying updated on market regulations, pricing dynamics, and industry trends that impact revenue generation and trading. Use data analytics tools and models to forecast market movements and inform trading decisions. Stay up to date with regional market rules, transmission constraints, and system operator procedures.
- Structured Trade Products Strategy: Develop and price structured products for BESS, thermal and Load Service assets that manage risk across the portfolio.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Software, Trading and Operations teams to communicate algorithm insights and drive business strategy.
- Ad hoc Projects: Provide data analysis and contribute to special projects, ad hoc analysis, and initiatives to enhance the company's revenue optimization efforts.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, finance, mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in energy trading, optimization research, revenue analysis, or related roles within the energy industry, with a strong emphasis on data analysis.
- Power Market Knowledge: Knowledge of power market operations, regulations, and pricing dynamics.
- Data Management Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Python or other data management tools for data analysis, modeling, and visualization.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data to identify trends and draw actionable insights.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manage large datasets while maintaining data integrity.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional environments.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to identify problems, propose solutions, and drive process improvements.
