Position Description

Contributes to the university's mission through teaching, in an academic unit. Train under the supervision and direction of a faculty mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent teaching. A postdoc appointment is for a minimum of one year with the possibility of annual re-appointment for up to four additional years, for a total not to exceed five years.

About the College

Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics is one of the largest departments on campus, with over 45 tenured and tenure track faculty. In addition, the Department includes several postdoctoral associates and instructors. Graduate enrollment has averaged 120 students per year since 2015. Of them, approximately 100 are supported full-time as: graduate part-time instructors, teaching assistants, or research assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

• Teach either one large course or two regular courses every semester
• Work under the guidance of a tenured faculty member of excellent qualifications, who agrees to serve as a mentor to the postdoc
• Workload: 50% research, 50% teaching
• Participate in teaching workshops offered by the Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development Center at Texas Tech University to enhance instructional abilities
• Contribute to the research and teaching mission of the department; service duties are confined to professional service in the field

Faculty Qualifications

Applicants must have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Additional required qualifications are:

1. Minimum of Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related sciences.
2. A competitive record of peer reviewed articles

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to meeting the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

A record of teaching excellence (at least 5 mathematics/statistics courses taught in the past with excellent student and peer evaluations).
