Basic Function

The Analyzer Specialist position is for an experienced Analyzer Technician specializing in on-line analyzers with 10+ years of applicable experience. Of particular interest would be the areas of analyzer technologies and hardware and how they apply to petrochemical plants. Candidates with an instrumentation engineering background, along with strong working knowledge of on-line analyzers will be considered. The Analyzer Specialist is to provide daily maintenance support of process analyzers, data communication architecture, and associated instrumentation and equipment. In addition, the Analyzer Specialist will provide technical support for Operations, IEA Engineers, Maintenance, HSE, Capital Projects, and Turnarounds to achieve the site strategy in areas of Environmental regulatory compliance, Process Safety, and Reliability.

Roles & Responsibilities

* Accountable for day to day technical support of process analyzers and maintenance teams.

* Identify opportunities for improved process analyzers, sample systems, and online analytical services, pertaining to beneficial improvement in cost/profitability, maintainability, obsolescence, process safety, quality, and reliability.

* Sustained reliability and drive for continual improvement in the area of site analyzers though the following:

o Track bad actors and develop mitigation plans.

o Strategic review and update of spare parts to mitigate threat of extended downtime due to obsolescence and long lead items.

o Manage PM creation for existing and new analyzer systems.

o Review completed PMs for accuracy and completion and take action if necessary.

o Optimize analyzer configuration and performance.

o Maintain appropriate records.

* Develop strategic plans for implementing/upgrading analyzer systems and steward the execution of the analyzer long range plan.

* Function as the Analyzer Technical Expert on Capital Projects. Provide engineering design and specifications to support procurement and construction activities for Projects. Select and specify analyzer systems for intended applications.

* Review design drawing and engineering specifications to ensure conformance with relevant standards and practices.

* Serve as an analyzer technology expert liaison between project engineers, plant maintenance, and operations personnel.

* Interact with Engineers and Construction contractors, both on-site and off-site.

* Steward the development, implementation and maintenance of analyzer standards and work instructions.

* Act as mentor to less experienced personnel - especially Analyzer Technicians and Engineers. Provide analyzer equipment training for our newer and less experienced Analyzer Technicians.

* Develop and execute factory acceptance test procedures for new analyzer systems.

* Provide commissioning and start up assistance with maintenance and process analyzer support.

* Support PSM activity such as MOCs, PHAs, and investigations as needed as an analyzer subject matter expert.

* Lead by example in all aspects of safety and deliver GoalZERO performance through employee/contractor involvement.

Min. Qualifications

* 10+ years of experience with on-line analyzers GC, Oxygen, IR, CEMS, HRVOC, Water Quality, Gas Detection, etc., in a refinery or petrochemical.

* Understand various analyzer technologies and hardware and how they apply to petrochemical plants.

* Understand sample conditioning principles and hardware and how to apply them to process analyzer systems.

* Experience in industrial chemical production units and operations and awareness of surroundings from a safety and environmental point of view.

* Knowledge of industry codes such as applicable ANSI/API codes, ISA standards, CFR, NEC, NFPA.

* Technical knowledge of analyzer design, specification, documentation, installation and maintenance.

* Practical experience with control systems and instrumentation.

* Ability to work with people at different levels of management, engineering and design, internal customers, and suppliers of materials and construction services.

* Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal form for the purpose of instructing others in technical matters and obtaining cooperation from various personnel.
