Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of the Business Intelligence and Project Management Office, this role leverages technical expertise and project management skills to support divisional initiatives and projects. Key responsibilities include: Project Leadership: Assess business and information needs, identify user requirements, and lead cross-functional projects to implement solutions for complex initiatives; Process Improvement: Analyze and improve business processes by defining needs, mapping workflows, and executing solutions. Technical Expertise: Provide technical leadership and deliver insights through metrics, analysis, and recommendations.
Communication and Reporting: Provide status updates and results to senior leadership and stakeholders. Collaboration and Relationship Building: Foster strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and leadership to ensure alignment on project goals, enhance communication, and drive successful project outcomes. Act as a liaison to resolve conflicts, build trust, and maintain stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

The role emphasizes a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), incorporating design thinking and people-centered approaches to innovation. Responsibilities include: Fostering Inclusion: Collaborate with employees to gather feedback, address concerns, and implement best practices to improve programs and processes. Driving DEI Initiatives, as/if assigned: Identify gaps, formulate actionable plans, and ensure measurable impacts on workplace diversity and equity. Data Analytics: Utilize analytics to measure DEI initiative effectiveness and track key performance indicators.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working as a project manager. Demonstrated leadership experience to independently manage/direct a wide variety of projects to their successful completion. Experience reporting results to senior leadership
  • Experience in business systems analysis, using analytical, problem-solving and management skills to independently research, develop, take ownership of, and confidently recommend technical solutions to complex problems and issues
  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements from multiple, cross-functional stakeholders using appropriate methodologies. Experience providing technical training, documentation, guidance, and support to a diverse audience
  • Experience determining priorities, exercising independent judgment, collaborating with colleagues, and making appropriate, strategic decisions
  • Experience implementing processes including workflows, automations integrations, and notifications, as well as creating reports and dashboards
  • Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills including diplomacy and the ability to explain complex technical and conceptual information to individuals of varying technical expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP or other relevant project management certifications preferred.
  • Experience with both waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Experience working on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and with diverse project teams and on multiple and simultaneous complex assignments, some of which may be unfamiliar or ambiguous where no clear guidelines exist
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience working as a business analyst or business process analyst
  • Experience using project management systems such as Smartsheet or Airtable
  • Experience in quality assurance, user acceptance testing and monitoring of key performance indicators as part of project implementation and change management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and political acumen to convene, facilitate and interact with internal and external stakeholders, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a collaborative team environment. Skill in negotiation, consensus building, collaborative problem-solving and conflict resolution.

Department Overview

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the lifelong learning arm of the university. The division maintains the most diverse portfolio on the campus, with programs spanning pre-college, professional continuing education, workforce development, international academic and cultural exchange, and training services for corporate and agency partners. As a global leader in continuing education, CPE serves learners regionally, nationally and globally, and posts more than 55K enrollments annually making it the third largest UC Extension by enrollment. Beyond its community-facing role, CPE serves as the internal hub for online education in support of other academic units on the campus. CPE employs approximately 180 employees and draws on the expertise of approximately 1,700 instructors.
