POSITION SUMMARY:

As a CNC Machinist Lead, your day will look like:

This position will assist the Supervisor on the day-to-day activities in the machine shop to ensure the workflow is running at optimum levels of efficiency. To be a Lead, the individual must be a Level 4 and can manage a team of machinists, schedule work, allocate resources and ensure production targets are met. The individual will also be responsible for performing activities to provide a liaison between Production Control, Production, Quality, and the Engineering Department. The Lead will also train employees on the proper set up and operation of machinery, assist Supervisor in the completion of first article inspections to ensure quality standards are met, monitor, and promote all safety best practices and policies.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:



  • Set-up, operate, and develop jobs and production operations, as well as 1st articles and adjustments.
  • Engage and assist others in technical problem solving on production floor issues.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Mentor and train others in technical areas.
  • Interface with engineering on program and tooling needs for improvement.
  • Participate in planning product flow across assigned work centers.
  • Possess the ability to review blueprints, drawings, and specifications, as well as sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations and/or set up requirements.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect any malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust the machine controls or control media, as necessary.
  • Facilitate efficient throughput of jobs through the manufacturing shop in line with production schedules.
  • Ability to provide solutions and alternatives to meet efficiency, productivity, and utilization goals.
  • Maintain the machine and environment at safe and clean condition. Participate in developing maintenance instructions for operators, maintenance team and/or engineering based on manufacturing specifications.
  • Work with and support maintenance vendors while performing maintenance of machinery, enforcing Lock Out/Tag Out safety protocols.
  • Develop highly efficient machining processes and optimize workflows to refine CNC programs to maximize productivity.
  • Oversee projects from inception to completion, ensuring smooth operation and standards compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of G and M Codes in CNC Machining.
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Perform other duties and assignments as assigned in accordance with established Company mission and values.


Compensation Range



  • $31 to $42 dependent on skills, experience, and abilities.



ESSENTIAL SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  • Proficient in turning operations on CNC equipment and inspection methods using calipers, height/depth gauges, dial indicators and granite tables, including a robust understanding of CMM measurements and blueprint interpretation.
  • Diverse knowledge in cutting tools and materials, fixture to machine relationships, general programming, set-up, and qualification practices.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with interpersonal skills to effectively lead in a team-based problem-solving environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strongability to prioritize, organize and schedule work effectively to meet objectives.
  • Lead efforts to implement new technologies, improve machining techniques, and enhance shop efficiency.
  • Address complex technical issues in production, make crucial decisions, and provide technical advice.
  • Familiar with Statistical Process Control (SPC), such as plotting graphs, upper and lower control limits and understanding out of control conditions.



BASIC REQUIRED SKILLS (Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience will be considered):



  • 5 or more years of experience in CNC precision machining.



PREFERRED REQUIRED SKILLS:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, lean manufacturing, aerospace material, engineering/quality specifications, and programming capabilities.
