Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Covington is a high-performance work system plant with approximately 465 team members that makes Cereal and Salty Snacks products, supporting our Morning Foods and Snacks Operating Units. In F25 the site plans to produce 68.3MM EQC across 8 manufacturing systems. The plant teams are comprised of highly skilled Technicians that operate under a 4-crew, 12-hr shift rotating schedule. The teams are aligned to technology-based work teams within site Material Handling, Snacks, Puff-Flake Processing & Packaging, Sheeted Twinscrew, and A-B-C Systems Processing & Packaging (1 Sprout and 2 Twinscrew systems).

The Snacks (Bugles and Chex) and Twinscrew Sheeted (Cinnamon Toast Crunch) Operations Manager is directly responsible for leading all elements of plant operations for the Snacks and Twinscrew Sheeted Department. This includes all activity related to converting raw materials into finished product and working cross-functionally with the plant support departments (Logistics, Maintenance and Engineering, Safety and Manufacturing Excellence, Food Safety and Quality, Finance, and Human Resources). This position plays an integral role in driving business results in collaboration with our plant Senior Leadership Team, leading both tactical and strategic priority setting and execution.

This role will also maintain a strong partnership between the plant and business teams, interacting closely with the Morning Foods Operating Unit / Family Favorites Business Unit and Snacks Operating Unit / Salty Business Unit teams. In the near term, there are several strategic innovation, growth and cost savings projects planned across our Snacks and Twinscrew Sheeted systems. Focused department leadership will be critical to ensure project success.

This role will have 2 salaried direct reports, 3 salaried indirect reports, overall leadership of the Snacks and Twinscrew Sheeted department technician teams (74 technicians), and overall accountability for department results (safety, FSQ, delivery, performance, cost, productivity).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Coach, develop and inspire work group to achieve required Human Safety, Food Safety, and Production Results.
  • Contribute as an integral member of the Plant Senior Leadership Team to drive plant strategy and culture. Also, partner to develop short and long-term strategies to drive productivity, organizational effectiveness and improvements in key plant priorities and metrics.
  • Develop and own the SS department Develop and implement pipeline of productivity/cost savings ideas that support the Covington Plant, Morning Foods Operating Unit, Snacks Operating Unit, and Supply Chain needs.
  • Create an environment where all employees are encouraged & developed to reach their full potential in meeting department/business goals, through cohesive teamwork and culture of belonging focus. Build capability at the technician level in the organization.
  • Provide business leadership that demonstrates daily commitment and fosters strong working partnerships with all functions to support plant goals and priorities.
  • Ensure efficient, safe, and sanitary processing and packaging working towards zero losses.
  • Ensure production facilities and finished products meet the company and government standards of quality, sanitation, and safety.
  • Drive a continuous improvement mindset that improves plant operating results through sustainable loss elimination and process rigor.
  • Ensure a strong partnership with the business units and effective interchange of information between the plant & operations department, as well as support resources at the plant and within GMI.
  • Model the Company and Plant's Behaviors and Values.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment or other applicable experience
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with the floor including building positive employee relations and developing a Zero Loss Culture
  • Ability to deliver results through others by managing salaried employees and/or leading cross-functional teams
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to effectively lead change
  • Ability to develop and lead strategic initiatives
  • Solid business judgment including demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of technology (i.e., complexities of products, machinery, and costs)
  • Good financial analysis and resource allocation skills
  • Ability to develop and manage a budget

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Business or Management preferred
  • 5-7 years related experience
  • Plant operations or related experience with direct, cross-functional accountabilities
  • Experience developing productivity pipeline

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $106800.00 - $160300.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
