Overview

The FWS Cafe/Store worker is responsible for preparing and/or serving food and beverage items in the Cafe while providing exceptional customer service and adhering to appropriate food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures. The Federal Work Study Cafe/Store Worker will also work in the Campus Store, processing sales quickly, accurately, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of the principles and practices used in the storage, care, preparation, cooking, dispensing, and serving of food.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety measures used in the operation, cleaning, and care of utensils, equipment, and work areas.
  • Basic knowledge of safe food handling procedures to ensure prevention of foodborne illnesses.
  • Skilled in customer service or willing to learn.
Essential Functions

Customer Service

  • Greet all customers when they walk through the door.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • Serve food to customers while ensuring guest satisfaction and anticipating the customers' needs.
  • Communicate customer concerns, needs, and equipment malfunctions to the leader.
  • Sell campus store items to customers while ensuring customer satisfaction and anticipating the customer's needs.

Cashiering

  • Perform cashiering duties including acceptance of payments for purchases, balancing the cash drawer, and preparing daily cash reports.

Cleaning

  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils.
  • Follow proper sanitation practices per state and federal guidelines.
  • Dust and vacuum/sweep the store as needed or directed by the leader.

Opening and Closing Procedures

  • Perform opening and closing procedures including turning equipment on/off, taking temperatures of food items, and preparing the Cafe and/or store for guests.
  • Organize items for sale on display.

Organizing, Stocking, and Setup

  • Maintain an orderly appearance of the cafe and store at all times.
  • Stock and organize merchandise and inventory in the cafe and store.
  • Assist with setup and caterings.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $15per hour - $24.32per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
