Performs work of unusual difficulty in the design, development and implementation of a research program important to the mission of BTNRH, using existing laboratory space and facilities. Participates in collaborative research projects with other members of the research and clinical staff. Assist the Director of the research laboratory in securing grant funds to retain this position. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Contributes to the design of experiments.
  • Contributes to the implementation of experiments, including selection of stimuli and programming.
  • Works closely with other lab personnel to share responsibilities for data collection, transcription, coding, and entry.
  • Works closely with other lab personnel to share responsibilities for measurement of fidelity.
  • Contributes to laboratory-wide efforts in communicating science, including conference presentations and co-authorships.
  • Manages day-to-day IT needs in the laboratory and seeks the support of BTNRH IT when required.
  • Communicates with participants and their families, including but not limited to scheduling, explanation of informed consent procedures, explanation of data collection procedures.
  • Assists the Laboratory Director in the preparation of grant proposals.
  • Collaborates with other members of the research and clinical staff on research problems of mutual interest.
  • Serves on appropriate committees, acquires knowledge of institutional administrative procedures, assists in annual budget preparation, and performs other administrative functions as requested by the Center Director and the Director of Research.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to apply comprehensive knowledge of the relevant literature, knowledge of relevant research procedures and skill in implementing them.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, statistics, and computer applications appropriate for the field of interest.
  • Ability to communicate concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well with other professional personnel and with support staff.
  • Knowledge of IPA transcription.
  • Basic programming skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline required.
  • Minimum of two years pre- and/or post-doctoral training in a major laboratory where research was performed relevant to the current research program required.
  • Strong research potential, as indicated by mastery of the necessary techniques and procedures, publications in refereed journals and presentations at national meetings, and other significant contributions to on-going research programs as a trainee required.
  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative(CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated success in securing external funding preferred.
  • Four years pre- and/or post-doctoral training in a major laboratory where research was performed relevant to the current research program preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
