Island Adventure Leader!

Are you an adventurous leader with a passion for nature education and outdoor exploration? Do you have experience in adventure safety and the skills to guide young campers through exciting island adventures? If so, we want you to be our Island Adventure Leader at Children's Island Day Camp!


About the Role:

The Island Adventure Leader is responsible for leading our Rangers Program under the supervision of the Children's Island Day Camp Director. Rangers is a leadership-focused adventure and nature education program for campers ages 9-13 at Children's Island Day Camp. This nine-week summer camp runs from June 23, 2025, to August 22, 2025, with additional prep hours in the spring. The ideal candidate will have experience managing staff and overseeing outdoor adventure activities, ensuring both fun and safety while fostering leadership and confidence in campers.


What You'll Do:

  • Lead Adventure Activities - Oversee and guide campers through thrilling experiences such as island adventures, ocean swimming, and snorkeling.
  • Ensure Safety - Maintain a strong focus on adventure safety, ensuring all activities are conducted with proper precautions and risk management.
  • Develop Leadership Skills - Inspire and mentor campers, helping them develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership abilities through hands-on learning.
  • Foster a Love for Nature - Teach campers about the environment, marine life, and outdoor survival skills in an engaging and educational way.
  • Prepare for Camp - Assist in planning and training sessions in the spring to ensure a smooth and successful summer program.
  • Collaborate with Staff - Work closely with fellow camp leaders and lifeguards to provide a safe and enriching experience for all campers.


What We're Looking For:

  • Experience in adventure safety - Must be comfortable leading activities like snorkeling, ocean swimming, and pier jumping with a focus on risk management.
  • Background in outdoor education, adventure leadership, or environmental science preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills - Ability to engage and motivate campers while maintaining a fun and structured environment, working with the Camp Director on a day-to-day basis.
  • Experience working with youth (ages 9-13) in a camp, school, or outdoor education setting.
  • Lifeguard or First Aid/CPR certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain before camp starts).
  • Enthusiasm for outdoor adventures and a love for working with kids!

Qualifications


  • Experience in adventure safety & outdoor leadership (leading activities like snorkeling, swimming, hiking, or wilderness exploration).
  • Experience working with youth (ages 9-13) in a camp, school, or outdoor education setting.
  • Strong risk management skills - ability to assess and minimize risks in outdoor and water-based activities.
  • Leadership and communication skills - must be able to engage, instruct, and inspire campers while maintaining structure.
  • CPR, First Aid, and/or Lifeguard Certification (or willingness to obtain before camp starts).
  • Comfortable in water environments - the ability to safely oversee ocean swimming, pier jumping, and snorkeling.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor, island-based setting - must be comfortable spending full days outside in various weather conditions.
  • Camp runs Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Applicants must be available to work full weeks.
  • Mandatory Spring training will be required - save the date of June 7th, 2025, June 4th, 2025 (6 pm to 9 pm), and June 15th, 2025 (8 am to 4 pm)
