Position Title:Industrial Engineering Intern

Location:Avantor (Wards Science), West Henrietta & Greece, NY

Department: Kitting Operations, Manufacturing & Distributions

Period: Summer 2025

Position Overview:We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Engineering Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in analyzing and optimizing our kitting line. The intern will be involved in conducting time studies, simulations, and physical pilots, culminating in a comprehensive business case analysis and recommendation for implementing a one-piece flow manufacturing process.

How you will thrive and create an impact:

• Time Studies:Conduct detailed time studies to analyze the current kitting line processes, identify bottlenecks, and measure cycle times.
• Simulations:Develop and run simulations to model different scenarios and predict the impact of changes on the kitting line efficiency.
• Physical Pilot:Assist in the reorganization of the kitting line to test proposed improvements in a real-world setting.
• Data Analysis:Collect and analyze data from time studies, simulations, and physical pilots to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Business Case Analysis:Prepare a comprehensive business case analysis, including cost-benefit analysis, to support the implementation of a one-piece flow manufacturing process.
• Recommendations:Develop and present recommendations for transitioning to a one-piece flow manufacturing process, highlighting potential benefits and challenges.
• Collaboration:Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality, and supply chain, to ensure alignment and successful implementation of process improvements.
• Documentation:Maintain detailed documentation of all analyses, simulations, and pilot results.

Who you are:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or master's degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Minitab).
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous internship or project experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and one-piece flow concepts.
• Experience with time study techniques and process improvement methodologies.
