Director of IT Enterprise Engineering
Steptoe LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 firm, is actively seeking a Director of IT Enterprise Engineering. This role will be a pivotal senior leadership position within the IT department, responsible for shaping and executing the firm's information technology engineering strategy to support both departmental and firm-wide goals. This role involves developing and leading a high-performance team that designs and implements advanced technical solutions, ensuring seamless alignment with the firm's business objectives. Collaborating with other departmental directors, this role contributes to the development and execution of the enterprise-wide IT strategy, driving innovation, setting and enforcing standards, and fostering a collaborative environment. As a key member of the senior IT leadership team, the individual in this role ensures that the firm's engineering strategies, encompassing both applications and infrastructure, are fully aligned and positioned to deliver significant business value.
Essential Functions
- Lead and manage a team of engineers responsible for the implementation and maintenance of enterprise-level networks, systems, and applications.
- Collaborate with other department areas, including architects, to design and develop new capabilities.
- Work with leadership to define and execute the strategic vision for enterprise engineering, ensuring technical solutions align with business goals.
- Partner with cross-functional teams within and outside the department to architect and implement scalable, reliable, and secure enterprise systems, supporting the organization's growth and operational efficiency.
- Foster a culture of innovation and cooperation within the team and across the department.
- Working with other functional areas, collaboratively evaluate emerging technologies and trends, making collective recommendations for adoption to enhance our enterprise capabilities.
- Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and methodologies to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, and business units, to ensure seamless integration of technical solutions into overall business processes.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, partners, and technology providers to optimize the use of third-party solutions.
- Develop and manage the enterprise engineering budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficient resource allocation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, related field, or equivalent work experience
- Ten or more years of experience in IT or business/industry
- Experience and familiarity with law firm environments and technology strongly desired
- Three or more years of leadership responsibilities, including strategy, budgeting, and staffing
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate an implementation and operations vision that inspires and motivates staff and aligns with the IT and business strategy
- Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning, and execution skills
- Ability to build consensus, make decisions based on many variables, and gain support for major initiatives.
- Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and practices, and how other enterprises are employing them
- Experience with third-party management, working closely with sourcing and vendor managers.

- Change Management: lead aspects of organizational change related to initiatives in the area; identify opportunities for business process, procedural, or fiscal improvements within areas of responsibility.
Work Environment
- Available to work in the office 9:00 - 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
- Position may be hybrid with availability to attend in-person in-office meetings as required

The anticipated base salary for this position is $200,000-$275,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
