Summary Responsible for leading the citywide safety program, supporting risk mitigation strategies for operational risks and workplace incidents. Develop, manage, supervise, and coordinate safety initiatives with department leaders to ensure a proactive approach to organization safety and risk compliance. Pay Range: $100,859 - 112,486 (Depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Design and implement a citywide framework for operational risk management initiatives. Develop, refine, and maintain workplace safety policies, procedures, and best practices. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure program success and recommend adjustments. Investigate workplace incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Analyze incident trends and guide preventative strategies through data collection and reporting. Conduct regular risk assessments of city operations to prioritize safety initiatives. Provide strategic direction and oversight for the department's Safety & Compliance Coordinator. Lead and support cross-departmental safety committees or task forces. Facilitate safety inspections of city facilities, fleet, and equipment to identify and mitigate risks. Develop and deliver targeted safety training programs tailored to department needs. Promote safety awareness through campaigns, workshops, and communication strategies. Act as an advisor to department leaders, offering guidance on safety and risk management. Build a culture of safety accountability and engagement through collaboration with stakeholders. Evaluate the effectiveness of safety initiatives and recommend improvements. Prepare reports and presentations for leadership with actionable insights to mitigate future liabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Project Management, or related field of study 5-7 years experience in safety and risk management, with a preference for experience in municipal or public-sector operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of Federal and State laws related to employment, safety, workers compensation, drug testing, and other employment related matters Knowledge of municipal structures and operations Knowledge of principles of self-insurance and budgeting Strong understanding of operational risk management principles. Extensive knowledge of current safety practices, regulations and standards Extensive knowledge of root cause analysis Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Effective leadership and collaboration skills to engage diverse teams and stakeholders. Proficiency in safety management systems, data analysis, and Microsoft Office Suite. Proficient skills writing procedures, policies and memos Proficient skills developing constructive training programs
Licenses and Certifications
