Are you a skilled, energetic individual with the ability to work independently and a passion for putting your HVAC Refrigeration experience and training to good use? The Department of Human Services is seeking a dedicated HVAC Refrigeration Technician to join our facility services team and plumbing shop at Clarks Summit State Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs related to HVAC systems and the HVAC/R trade across our expansive 152-acre campus, which includes over 40 buildings. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of HVAC systems, including air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, and related equipment. You will troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues, which may involve diagnosing problems, disassembling and reassembling equipment, repairing or replacing parts and controls, and testing systems to ensure they are functioning properly. You will demonstrate strong time management and decision-making skills by prioritizing tasks and adapting to changing work requirements to meet deadlines. Additionally, you will prioritize safety in all aspects of your work, fostering a safe environment by demonstrating and promoting safe work practices for yourself and your colleagues.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Weekend work occurs every 12th week on a rotation with 12 people, and on-call holidays are also rotated among 12 people.
  • May change based on operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (commonwealth title); or
  • Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.

Special Requirements:

  • You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.

  • You must have an active motor vehicle license.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
