Position Highlights |
The laboratory of Aaron McGee at the Department of Translational Neurosciences is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Professional I to work on research projects focused on the mechanisms experience dependent plasticity within brain circuitry. This research will look at how this plasticity is regulated by known genes, how brain function and plasticity are disrupted in both neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, and how neural plasticity is affected by psychoactive chemicals by psychoactive chemicals with in repeated in vivo calcium imaging, electrophysiology, and assays of visually-guided performance.
Ideal candidates will be motivated and enthusiastic individuals with some experience performing research in a laboratory setting. The candidate should have prior research experience with rodents. The successful candidate is expected to assist in vitro and in vivo studies as well as operate with significant independence on smaller research projects involving assays of visually-guided performance. This individual should be responsible, detailed-oriented, able to follow instructions and incorporate feedback, and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing, and importantly enjoy working in a research setting. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Perform assays of visually-guided performance
- Assists with conducting advanced research.
- Reviews progress and evaluates results.
- Assists in performing surgical procedures on mice.
- Maintains clear, detailed laboratory notebooks with experimental procedures, calculations, and data. Prepares data for computer input and record computer output.
- Assists with compiling data and generating computerized statistical data for analytical purposes using software packages.
- Performs mouse husbandry, genotyping, and associated record keeping.
- Coordinates the acquisition of lab supplies, including doing inventory.
- Sterilizes lab supplies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.
- Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection, and analyses.
- Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.
- Ability to effectively communicate.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
- One (1) year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications |
* A Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or related field of the biological sciences. Advanced degree preferred.
* Previous research experience (internship, independent study, job).
* Experience with rodent behavioral assays. |
