Description
Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to supporting the head defensive line coach in all aspects of training, strategy, and player development for the defensive line, please note all duties and responsibilities below:
- Player Development and Coaching
- Technique: Work closely with defensive line players to teach fundamental skills such as pass-rushing techniques, run-stopping, hand placement, body positioning, and leverage.
- Skill Improvement: Assess individual player strengths and weaknesses; improve performance with tailored drills
- Film Breakdown: Review game film with players, highlighting key plays, tendencies of opposing offensive lines, and areas for improvement.
- Position-Specific Drills: Run position-specific drills to help players master their techniques.
- Fundamentals and Conditioning: Assist in organizing and overseeing conditioning drills that improve agility, speed, strength, and endurance specific to defensive line play.
- Game Preparation
- Scouting and Opponent Analysis: Assist with analyzing opponent offensive lines, identifying tendencies, weak points, and strategies to exploit; work with defensive coordinator to address these areas.
- Practice Planning: Assist in organizing practice schedules, including drills that simulate real-game situations for the defensive line.
- Collaboration with Other Coaches
- Coaching Staff Coordination: Work closely with other assistant coaches (e.g., linebackers, defensive backs) to ensure defensive strategies are integrated and executed effectively.
- Input on Game Plan: Offer insights and suggestions for defensive schemes and adjustments during games based on the performance of the defensive line and the opposing offense.
- Team Communication: Communicate effectively with the head coach, defensive coordinator, and other staff members about player progress, game plans, and any areas of concern.
- Player Motivation and Mentorship
- Motivation: Help keep defensive line players focused, motivated, and mentally prepared for games. Foster a positive and competitive attitude within the group.
- Mentorship: Model the highest order of professionalism and always display the highest level of ethical and moral behavior with focus on building positive relationships with players, coaches, parents and the community.
- Service: Create a Christ centered environment and team culture of service to others that reflects the Lipscomb Academy Mission Statement.
- Accountability: Ensure that players maintain discipline in terms of effort, attitude, and adherence to team rules and expectations. Guide student athletes in learning appropriate sportsmanship, cooperation and work ethic, personal responsibility, and competitiveness.
