In this role, you will provide direct patient care, assist with medical assessments, and support the nursing team in delivering comprehensive healthcare services to individuals within the correctional facility. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a correctional environment and capable of managing a variety of healthcare tasks, including medication administration, patient monitoring, and assisting in medical procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide basic nursing care to incarcerated individuals, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and observing patients for changes in condition.
  • Assist in the assessment and evaluation of patients, including performing physical exams and recording medical histories.
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, and other basic clinical procedures as needed.
  • Administer prescribed medications, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to prescribed dosages and schedules.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to medications and report any concerns to the supervising physician or nurse.
  • Assist with the intake process for new patients, including medical history documentation, vital signs, and any necessary screenings.
  • Participate in discharge planning and ensure continuity of care by providing patients with follow-up instructions and education on their condition and treatment plan.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Document nursing assessments, procedures, and patient interactions clearly and promptly.
  • Work closely with physicians, registered nurses, and other medical staff to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providing them with information about their health, treatment options, and care instructions.
  • Ensure that all procedures and protocols are followed according to the Department of Corrections' safety guidelines and healthcare policies.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment for both patients and staff.
  • Be prepared to respond quickly and appropriately to medical emergencies, providing care until higher-level intervention is available.
