DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Officer 3, you will supervise a staff providing care, custody, and control of inmates at SCI Fayette. You will assign work duties, complete performance evaluations, interview applicants, and conduct staff training. You will oversee daily operations at the facility involving security, food service, maintenance, medical services, and recreational activities. In addition, you will conduct daily tours of inmate housing units and address any concerns. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to form effective working relationships to ensure all major inmate movements and activities receive adequate supervision, monitor surveillance for irregularities in inmate behavior, and participate in non-professional inmate counseling.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • DOC is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work hours to be determined. You will be scheduled rotating days off.
  • This position is eligible for retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title); or
  • Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility. (Note: Persons seeking employment under this option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.)

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
