Job Summary

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer II - Electronics Packaging Specialist to join our Signal Solutions team in Frederick, MD*. As a Mechanical Engineer II - Electronics Packaging Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting, development, and design of world class data recording collection systems, radio frequency (RF) tuners, receivers, and subsystems that are densely packaged with cutting edge technology. For over 60 years, we have served the Signals Intelligence community and continue to hold the reputation as the oldest, most dependable, and innovative RF house in the world.

This position offers some remote flexibility plus a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off)**

Job Responsibilities
  • Completion of mechanical development and designs of slight complexity associated with packaging electronic circuits to include, thermal and structural analysis, concept development, detailed design, first article assembly, environmental testing in support of thermal and structural analysis, as well as manufacturing and customer support for new and existing products.
  • Providing status, estimates of time to complete assigned tasks, and identifying risk/s, conflicts, or bottlenecks that impact schedule or budget.
  • Understanding budget, material cost, and schedule for assignments.
  • Reviewing customer specifications and requirements, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable.
  • Communicating clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel.
  • Working closely with Printed Circuit Board Designers and other Mechanical Engineers as well as multi-disciplined teams that include Configuration Management, Electrical Engineering (Digital and RF), Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Systems Engineering, and Test Engineering.
  • Creating, editing, and reviewing Bills of Materials, CAD models, 2D drawings, reports, technical data packages, Problem Reports and Engineering Change Orders.
  • Working independently or as part of a team with ability to follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Performing effectively in demanding environment/s with competing workloads and deadlines.
  • May develop prototypes to retire key development risks.
  • May critique designs as necessary.
  • May participate in the preparation of slightly complex proposals and technical reports.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience and a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Competent technical expertise and application domain knowledge
  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • 2+ years of electronics packaging experience in one or more of the following areas: avionics, OpenVPX modules, handheld-manpack radios, EIA rack mounted equipment, and or rugged electronics.
  • Fluency in technologies and application domain knowledge in the following:

Creo
AutoCAD
Mechanical Design
Tolerance Analysis
Thermal Management

Software Tools:
Microsoft Office Suite, PTC Creo, Windchill, AutoCAD, Ansys IcePak and Mechanical, SolidWorks

*This position has the option of being either fully onsite in our Frederick facility or partly remote (onsite Tues-Thurs). Must live within commuting distance of the designated facility regardless of choice. We are moving to Frederick in early 2023!
