Minimum Experience: 5 years commercial/industrial

Certification: Must have proper licensure for HVAC work

Pay: $39.54/hour

Fringe Benefit: $10.01 per hour ($7.51 Health &Welfare / $2.50 401k contribution)

Job Description



  • Installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in office, laboratory and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
  • Mounts compressor and condenser units using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
  • Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools.
  • Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
  • Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
  • Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings, or unions and solders joints using torch forming complete circuit for refrigerant,
  • Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
  • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
  • Installs air and water filters in completed installation.
  • Injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds refrigerant gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.
  • Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation.
  • Tests joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges, leak detectors, or soap and water solution.
  • Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place.
  • Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
  • Experience in, and the ability to troubleshoot and perform corrective measures on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment from small 1 ton AC units thru 200 ton centrifugal compressors as well as all associated equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electric, DDC control systems, Metasys preferably.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm systems and data cabling.
  • Perform snow removal as needed.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment
  • Maintain written and electronic records, document actions and present written progress reports
  • Must be able to climb ladders (step, extension, straight, etc.) up to 40 ft;
  • Must be able to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs. for 20 ft if required;
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel as needed.
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as, but not limited to, gloves, harnesses, respirators, hardhats, protective clothing if required.

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge Required by the Position



  • Possess a valid driver's license;
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • 5-10 years of HVAC experience or equivalent;
  • Must have proper licensing/certification;
  • Boiler Operator License a plus;
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and subsequent random drug screening;
  • Ability to perform work independently and work within a team oriented environment;
  • Must have the ability to work with all types of power and hand tools safely and effectively;
  • Must be able to climb ladders (step, extension, straight, etc.) up to 40 ft;
  • Must be able to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs. for 20 ft if required;
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel as needed.
