Job Summary

Working under direct supervision of the Revenue Supervisor, acquires skills and knowledge in revenue cycle practices and concepts. Learns to work on projects of limited scope and complexity. Reviews, corrects, analyzes coding and billing errors for outpatient service for 45+ attending at UCSF Health Dermatology Department, as well as identifying trends and potential issues for process adjustments and improvements.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The annual base salary range for this position is $52,800-$112,000. The target entry point is $68,670+, based on experience. Department Description

The dermatology practices at UCSF Medical Center are regional centers offering a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services for patients of all ages with cutaneous problems. We provide the most comprehensive skin cancer treatment program in Northern California, are the region's only vascular anomalies center, and provide a complete psoriasis treatment program. The Dermatology Clinic offers a wide range of treatments for patients with skin problems, including the following conditions: acne, autoimmune and connective tissue disease, HIV-related skin disorders, mole, atypical nevus, melanoma surveillance, disorders of cornification, pigmented disorders, environmental dermatitis, rosacea, hair and nail disorders, wound and ulcer care, human papillomavirus (HPV). The procedures performed in the Dermatology clinics include biopsies, incisions, Mohs surgery, and cosmetic procedures.

Required Qualifications


  • High School diploma and a minimum of two years of Dermatology billing and coding exp.
  • Knowledge of any or all of the following: Billing, Collections, Charge Capture, Contractual Adjustments, Third-party Reimbursements and/or Cash Management.
  • Knowledge of reporting instruments, metrics and/or dashboard design.
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of CPT-4, ICD10 and HCPCS coding guidelines and policies relevant surgical office professional coding and/or billing experience.
  • Detail oriented, with organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments consistently on schedule.
  • Basic communications skills, with the ability to interpret and present clinical financial information clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area or four years of applicable experience.
  • Certified Billing and/or Coder Certification
  • Knowledge of database, spreadsheet and presentation software.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn to evaluate workflows and systems.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment with internal staff in a wide variety of business and clinical areas.
