Utz Quality Foods is seeking a Transportation Planner to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Operations-Transportation, this role is responsible for planning specific locations and accountability for identified projects or analyses. Approximately 75% of the day-to-day function will be transportation operations focused, through managing the carriers and warehouses within our network. This would include interacting with the warehouse/manufacturing facilities and supporting carrier base. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maximizing the efficiency of carrier's service through the use of a transportation management system (TMS).

The Planner will be responsible for the management of relationships with the current carrier base to meet customer service demands. This individual will also look for and analyze new opportunities that will enhance the logistics network. Approximately 25% of the role will include Project or Analytical work. These projects will be current needs and identified at the time of the position. The candidate will learn both Transportation operations and analytics and have opportunities to deliver real results to the organization, while gaining valuable industry experience. This is a remote position but the applicant must be based in the USA.

Transportation Planner:



  • Responsible for tracking all freight through the delivery process.
  • Accountable for all service KPI's; Perform analysis on performance trends.
  • Resolve chronic service and capacity issues; ensure carriers are performing to expectations and maintain corrective action plans for those that are not. Proactively identify problems and swiftly work with senior management to implement the appropriate solution.
  • Evaluate shipments, consolidate loads, and select the most cost-effective method of delivery.
  • Be the liaison between the transportation department and other internal departments.
  • Coordinate and review daily routing for improvement opportunities.
  • Work closely with customer service to adjust deliveries when requested by customers.
  • Coordinate schedules for various warehouse and plant shipping and receiving docks.
  • Work in conjunction with the operations manager to contain rate and accessorial charges.
  • Manage daily delivery programs and suggest updated carrier commitment levels., especially during seasonal and customer peaks.
  • Ensure that the plan is in accordance with all the company's strategies, goals, objectives, and procedures while meeting its financial commitments.
  • Manage the primary activities of the deployment and delivery cycle including planning (load building and mode/carrier selection), execution (tendering, track trace and scheduling), and reporting (performance to budget, compliance).



Requirements:



  • Degree in business administration, supply chain, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-3 years work experience, strong business, and broad supply chain acumen
  • Advance experience in Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Charts, Graphs minimum required), as well as Power BI.
  • Experience with ERP and TMS (Microsoft Dynamics 365 and e2open BluJay a plus).
  • Demonstrated analytical, business process and problem-solving experience.
  • Prior experience engaging cross-functional teams designed to identify analytical and savings efficiencies and design solutions.
  • Self-starter who thrives working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Creative and innovative thinker with proven ability to drive results.
  • Proven organizational and priority setting skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Transportation Management System (TMS) experience strongly preferred.
  • Must have the ability to interface with carrier's representatives.
