Description

This is a temporary non-benefited position which requires a great deal of flexibility regarding the work schedule. Work hours are approximately 10-20 hours per week. Additional information regarding the work schedule will be discussed with candidates at the interview.

Criminal History and Background Check: Candidates will need to pass a background investigation conducted by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office.


Example of Duties

A Security Screener contributes to the overall confidence in building safety, facilitating the seamless movement of people and belongings. This position is situated within an important security checkpoint and involves screening the public for any potential contraband or prohibited items as they enter the Waukesha Courthouse/Administration complex. A Security Screener must also maintain situational awareness by remaining alert for any suspicious activity, potential threats, or individuals attempting to bypass security screening. It requires the ability to respond promptly and efficiently to security breaches or alarms following established protocols to resolve incidents, and coordinate with law enforcement to provide critical information and support during security incidents or threats.

A Security Screener interacts with a diverse range of customers, navigating challenging customer situations and handling various personalities. Candidate must be adept at adjusting communication styles based on individual interactions. This position also requires problem-solving skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and ability to effectively resolve conflicts and defuse tense situations.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Provides focused surveillance on incoming and outgoing traffic; detects potential threats and suspicious behavior and discreetly reports to the Sheriff's Office.
  2. Greets and assists persons entering the public entrance of the Courthouse/Administration complex.
  3. Operates screening equipment (x-ray machine, magnetometer, and handheld search devices).
  4. Inspects personal items and screens members for contraband or prohibited items; collects prohibited items when necessary.
  5. Provides directions and general information to persons entering the complex.
  6. Reports policy and law violations, and emergencies to the Sheriff's Office.
  7. May occasionally be required to escort individuals through the complex.
  8. Establishes and maintains positive and effective working relationships with employees and members of the public.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  2. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  3. Ability to remain alert and attentive.
  4. Ability to focus and maintain strong attention to detail.
  5. Ability to effectively and respectfully interact with the public in providing direction related to security procedures.
  6. Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stoop, and reach upward to heights of 6' or greater while conducting searches with handheld screening devices.
  7. Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and listen.
  8. Ability to reach, lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  9. Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels and varying temperatures.
  10. Visual abilities include distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus when monitoring an x-ray machine.
  11. Ability to take direction and follow orders in accordance with Sheriff's Office chain of command.
  12. Ability to work business hours and occasional evenings.

This position requires wearing a department-issued uniform shirt and appropriate business casual attire.
