Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition. |
Position Summary |
The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the performance of routine maintenance/operations and repairs for all mechanical systems essential to the operation of the Department of Athletics' facilities and properties. Systems overseen include:
HVAC systems, plumbing, and building services support. Normal work hours are M-F 7:00 AM-3:30 PM. Night and weekend work to support events is also required. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
A valid NC Driver's License is required. Knowledge and familiarity with small tools and common machine shop equipment. Working knowledge of State Building and Electrical Codes. Working knowledge of low-pressure heating plant operations. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Two years of related work experience |
Required Licenses/Certifications |
Valid NC Driver's License. |

Must be able to move/lift 25 lbs or greater with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to ascend/descend stairs. Must be able to manage a high volume, fast-paced work environment. Attention to detail essential. Must have the ability to work in extreme weather conditions. Must be comfortable performing work in loud environments and confined spaces |
