What You'll Do in This Position

Provide internal/external communications advisory support for SRNS programmatic activities with an emphasis on public employee involvement, public employee information, and public participation activities. This position is responsible for the development, writing, and editing of a wide range of materials to portray the company's policies and activities accurately before appropriate internal and external audiences on a variety of topics. Incumbents work with local, state, and national media, as well as the general public. May also be called upon to manage meetings with a variety of external organizations.

Develop and implement strategic approach for assigned internal oriented and/or public-oriented program project keeping management informed as to issues which are in the public point of view publicizing initiatives to assure adequate participation and DOE satisfaction. May be required to serve as liaison from Site to various citizen's organizations or to other public entities. In this capacity, acts as spokesperson for the Site, which requires in-depth knowledge on area of concern. In this capacity, this individual is authorized to interact with the media on a broad range of site issues, including broadcast interviews. In support of customers, expected to design a customer approved internal communication plan relating to either a sitewide program, or design an approved departmental policy or system relating to internal communication process or procedures; and, design a customer approved media plan to publicize a significant site program or activity; and, design a customer approved plan, a departmental policy or process relating to stakeholder participation campaigns. Initiate public involvement/public information initiatives within educational institutions. Develop/implement new strategies to inform stakeholders of public involvement. Provide writing and editing for assigned programs/projects, as well as for SRNS management, DOE-SR management, and critical stakeholders, including speeches, newspaper articles and other materials for internal and external release. Responsible for media relations, explaining and/or interpreting SRNS policies or actions to news media representatives. This is accomplished both through verbal communication and written communication. Maintain cooperative relationship with news media. Act as a resource for all site organizations when dealing with public issues, to include review of materials produced by SRNS personnel which will be released to the public (articles, speeches, presentations, etc). Also includes preparing site personnel who are in positions where they may be required to interact with the media. Maintain SRNS presence in trade publications by placing articles in various trade publications. Write, co-write, or edit articles, or arrange for site subject matter experts to be interviewed by publication. May be required to participate in the Emergency Response Organization (ERO), possibly assuming a lead role for Public Relations personnel in a position designated as "essential for minimum staffing".

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

High School Diploma, GED, or other equivalent State Credential

Other Qualifications

*Excellent command of Microsoft Office Suite and other editing programs
*Ability to communicate highly technical information accurately
*Capable of providing high-quality, independent work with strict adherence to deadline
*Experience with construction/project processes and mission communications

Qualifications We Desire

*College degree in communications, English, Journalism or other bachelor's degree with a concentration or minor in one of these areas preferred.
*Knowledge of SRS NNSA projects and missions
*Proficiency with data analytics
*Graphics and layout/design
