Your Opportunity as the Lead Analyst, Tax Compliance

Lead the preparation of the federal income tax return and oversee co-sourced tax depreciation and state income tax return preparation processes. Manage the respective process workflows, track filing obligations, compute and manage tax payments, reconcile tax payable/receivable balances, conduct tax research, and coordinate other compliance activities in accordance with applicable tax laws. As a key member of a high performing corporate tax department, this position will also seek to drive continuous improvement inclusive of leveraging technology solutions of the overall income tax cycle including estimated payments, tax accounting, tax return filings, and audit/controversy defense.

Location: Orrville, OH Corporate Offices

Work Arrangements: Hybrid, 30% in office expectation

In this role you will:

  • Manage the income tax compliance cycle and process flows, drive process improvements and leverage technology to streamline and automate recurring calculations.

  • Prepare the federal income tax return, inclusive of preparing/reviewing related calculations and supporting working papers.

  • Manage third party co-source processors for completion of state and local income tax returns. Review and/or prepare returns where appropriate.

  • Maintain and reconcile tax fixed asset information, inclusive of managing third party co-source tax depreciation preparer.

  • Prepare and/or review federal and state estimated tax payments and filing extensions.

  • Prepare and provide forecast of federal and state cash taxes to Treasury.

  • Prepare and/or review tax accrual and prepaid account reconciliations.

  • Prepare and/or review state apportionment data, state modifications, and other ad hoc state calculations.

  • Support IRS Compliance Assurance Process (CAP) audit requests and other non-federal tax audit inquiries and notices, as needed.

  • Support quarterly and annual income tax provision processes to ensure accurate tax amounts are reported in the Company's financial statements and related disclosures. Effectively execute internal controls over financial reporting of taxes.

  • Support strategic domestic tax projects, such as acquisitions, divestitures, system implementations, and internal restructurings, as required.

  • Monitor domestic legislative activities and tax law changes, and collaborate/communicate relevant impacts to management.

  • Conduct ad hoc tax research and prepare technical memorandums to support tax positions.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to further understand business processes and to educate others on tax related items.

  • Mentor and coach staff and other tax department personnel.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

  • 5 + years overall experience (CPA firm or public company), with emphasis on federal and/or state tax compliance activities

  • Experience with federal corporate income tax matters

  • Experience with OneSource or other comparable tax software

  • Excellent project management skills and proven ability to multi-task within a collaborative and fast-paced environment

  • Proven ability to identify and drive process improvements

  • Ability to proactively coach and mentor individuals and teams

  • Very strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy of work

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and presentation skills

  • Strong communication and professional presence

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel

  • Flexibility to continually evolving business needs

Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:

  • CPA or master's degree

  • Working knowledge of state and local tax compliance and controversy matters

  • Experience with Oracle and/or Hyperion
