The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) is seeking a full-time, on-site Admixture Tech to join our team in our Wichita, KS offices. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with no major holidays, no on-call and no weekends.

What does this position entail?

Under general supervision, responsible for the safe and aseptic admixture of oncology products. Prepares medications and admixtures using aseptic technique, according to OSHA guidelines. Assures correct medication dosage form, strength, and quantity as per written physician order. Accurately labels all medications and admixtures. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Prepares medications and admixtures using aseptic technique, according to OSHA and interoffice guidelines.
  • Accurately prepares drug dosages, ensuring correct form, strength, and quantity as per physician orders within the EMR.
  • Labels all medications and admixtures accurately.
  • Assists with compounding or admixing medications under the supervision of a physician, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Verifies patient information for medication orders cross-referencing the EMR.
  • Performs calculations for correct dosage volumes, including conversions between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Receives, checks in, and stocks medications and supplies, ensuring accurate inventory records.
  • Monitors, documents, and reports refrigerator and room temperatures to maintain required storage conditions.
  • Routinely checks medications for expiration and manages quality assurance activities, including checking for outdated products and maintaining accurate lot numbers and logs.
  • Assists with cleaning hoods daily and maintains proper sanitation in the preparation area to ensure an ISO-classified environment.
  • Assists with the disposal of materials used in compounding chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy IV medications.
  • Provides support with inventory control, including medication ordering, supply management, and filing billing information.
  • Prepares medication labels and assists with basic data entry into department automation systems.
  • Maintains proper documentation related to medications, including protocol drugs, patient assistance drugs, and controlled substances.
  • Assists with controlled drug inventory, ensuring accurate weekly counts and proper recordkeeping.
  • Demonstrates compliance with all policies and procedures regarding drug preparation, handling, and safety, including HIPAA privacy rules, and maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to protocols related to the treatment room, admixture areas, and patient safety.
  • Attends required, applicable meetings.
  • Remains current on all compliance requirements.
  • Ensures all applicable policies and procedures of the company and Network are followed.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned, including coverage within the department across sites.
  • Cross-train or perform other tasks as reasonably requested.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following qualifications:

Basic Work Requirements:

  • Familiarity or ability to learn software programs required for the care and management of the patients such as practice management, EMR and inventory systems.
  • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with ICD10 codes is preferred.

Education, Certification and or Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum two to four year's experience in a medical office or pharmacy environment is preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.

Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
