Description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Construction Loan Analyst I to join our team! This position will provide quality customer service through accurate and efficient processing of residential or commercial constructions loans from approval through completion of construction and conversion.

As part of this role you would:



  • Depending on assigned LOB, essential duties and responsibilities may include the following:

    • Work closely with Relationship Managers, Business Banking Officers, Mortgage Loan Officers, Underwriters, Partner Services, Commercial Administrators and Credit Administration to facilitate and resolve issues on new loan transactions, modifications, and renewals.
    • Prepare budget analysis, evaluate supporting documentation received from borrowers and third parties to confirm the project is on budget, that borrower has injected equity into the project, that all reclassifications and change orders are properly funded, and that the borrower is properly documenting their draw request.
    • Work closely with customers to explain our process for monitoring loans and to identify and evaluate the appropriateness of customer's information submitted for draw requests.
    • Work closely with third party providers (inspectors, title companies) to identify information needs and then evaluate the information as received in the draw process.
    • Exercise independent judgment to determine closing documents and support information meets compliance and policies/procedures in regard to construction.
    • Maintain pipeline and other reports documenting performance in meeting service level requirements.
    • Review construction loan documentation packages both internal and outside counsel prepared in evaluating the monitoring requirements for the loan.
    • Research, analyze, and problem resolution of advanced and complex commercial loan related issues for internal and external customers in a professional and personable manner.
    • Provide timely and accurate customer service in a professional manner to customers, employees, vendors and all other inquires.
    • Offer process/procedure improvement suggestions and raise illogical situations/findings to management.
    • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and remain calm while working in a fast-paced/deadline driven environment.
    • Document and maintain procedures for processes.
    • Complete the annual Contractor Payment Report for 1099 reporting. (Commercial)
    • Download and review the Commercial Loan Delinquency report every week.
    • Upload copies of construction draws into OnBase within 3 days of funding. (Commercial)




In order to be successful in this position, we require the following:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Two (2) years of working in an office environment working with customers.


The following would be a plus:



  • Experience in construction loan monitoring and/or construction management or accounting
  • Experience in commercial or residential lending
  • Associate degree
  • MS Office tools
  • Experience in Built or other construction management software
  • Encompass Loan Origination System (Residential only)
  • Power BI
