What We Need:

The Systems Database Engineer responsible for implementing and supporting our Enterprise Database Environment. Primary focus is on PostgreSQL including both AWS RDS and on-premises deployments. Secondary focus is with Microsoft SQL Server. Additional platforms supported by the team include Oracle, Netezza (IBM CloudPak for Data), DB2 and Informix.

Your Day to Day

  • Provides expertise for design and support of Enterprise Database Infrastructure systems
  • Manages two or more of our System Database platform types including system availability, administration, operational processes, patching, technical currency, vendor management, capacity management, and best practices across the enterprise
  • Ensures the seamless integration and synchronization of business applications, security, and infrastructure technologies
  • Plans and designs System database software, including installation and upgrades, tuning, structure, monitoring, documentation, 24x7 operational support, process maintenance, change and incident management, and security/data protection
  • Actively participates in the development of infrastructure requirements with business, architecture group, and solution teams
  • Communicates within project teams to set deliverables and expectations (time/resource requirements)
  • Leads the introduction of new/incoming technology projects into production
  • Responsible for production support, design, planning, implementation, functional testing, troubleshooting, and protection of BCBSMA corporate assets
  • Leads strategic technical planning for new database systems or lifecycle
  • Works closely with Architects, Developers, Business Analysts and Project Managers sharing technical knowledge in multiple system database platforms

We're Looking for:

  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
  • AWS Certified Database - Specialty

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field (or its equivalent)
  • 10 years System Database Engineer experience
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL
  • Strong experience with AWS RDS, specifically postgres and aurora-postgres
  • Experience with Oracle, Informix, DB2, or Netezza is a plus
  • Strong experience with Unix and Windows platforms
  • Strong knowledge with storage administration technologies
  • Strong scripting and automation skills
  • Security and Network knowledge
  • Certifications in prevalent technologies preferred
  • Experience in monitoring, backups, disaster recovery, change and incident management, CMDB
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

LocationBoston Time TypeFull time Salary Range: $133,740.00 - $163,460.00

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
