Intern Position Summary

The Cybersecurity Intern will work with the Cybersecurity team within our Bank Supervision department. The Cybersecurity team is tasked with providing state agencies and CSBS staff with useful and actionable information concerning IT and cybersecurity trends and threats to the bank and nonbank financial institutions regulated by state banking agencies. The summer intern will gain experience researching cybersecurity threats and supporting efforts to inform banking departments, banks, and nonbank institutions about current and emerging threats.

Essential Functions

• Follow and analyze current and emerging national and global cybersecurity threats and their relevance and impact to the financial sector.
• Research financial entities that have experienced a cybersecurity incident and analyze after-action reports to extract important lessons learned.
• Attend cybersecurity briefings (unclassified) and other relevant meetings.
• Attend meetings of the CSBS Bankers Electronic Crimes Task Force and assist with various Task Force projects.
• Assist with preparation and proofing of fact sheets and other materials supporting the ongoing 2025 CSBS Cyber Hygiene Awareness campaign.
• Assist with researching subject matter and assisting in the development of concepts for cyber/IT conference presentations and narratives.

Education and Experience

• Currently pursuing a degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology (IT), Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience with cybersecurity operating systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of network security concepts.
• Knowledge in financial sector-centered cybersecurity and technical inclination.

Requirements

• Due to the nature of CSBS's business in support of state financial services supervision, all CSBS employees have the potential of interacting with confidential information related to the supervision of financial services companies ("Confidential Supervisory Information"). As a result, in addition to general business conflicts of interest, all CSBS employees are expected to disclose conflicts of interest in financial services companies on at least an annual basis and to proactively avoid such conflicts.
