Join the Office of Professional and Continuing Education as a
Summer Camp Counselor and be part of the team that brings Auburn Youth Programs (
AYP) to life! Each summer,
AYP hosts academic camps for over 4,000 high school students, offering them an unforgettable Auburn University experience.
As a Camp Counselor, you'll play a vital role in creating a fun, engaging, and memorable summer for our campers. While Auburn University faculty lead the academic instruction, counselors take the lead in evening programming, guiding activities that foster connection, learning, and growth.
Counselors must be fully available throughout the summer and may only enroll in asynchronous online courses during their employment. In-person or synchronous courses cannot be taken while serving as a counselor.

Essential Functions |
If you're ready to make an impact this summer, meet new people from across the U.S., and enjoy meals at The Edge, becoming a counselor with Auburn Youth Programs (
AYP) might be the perfect opportunity for you! As a counselor, you'll help create extraordinary experiences for camp participants while developing leadership and mentorship skills. Meals and overnight accommodations are provided while camps are in session; however, counselors must arrange their own housing and meals during off weeks.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Engage Enthusiastically: Actively participate in all camp sessions and activities with energy and enthusiasm, ensuring a fun and welcoming environment for campers. Guide and Supervise: Escort campers to all daily programs, including dorm stays, walks across campus, dining hall meals, curriculum sessions, and recreational activities. Be a Mentor: Serve as a mentor and guide, welcoming campers into the Auburn family and embodying the Auburn spirit to create a memorable and inspiring experience. Ensure Safety: Maintain constant supervision of campers during camp-related sessions, field trips (both on and off campus), dining, and overnight dorm stays to ensure their safety. Support Camp Logistics: Assist with camp check-in and check-out processes, distribute camp materials, and perform other tasks to ensure smooth operations. Uphold Policies: Adhere to all AYP and Auburn University regulations regarding minors, housing, and other safety guidelines. Complete Training: Attend mandatory counselor training before the start of camps, tentatively planned for the week of May 19th. Additional Duties: Take on additional responsibilities as assigned to support the success of the camp.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Have attended Auburn University for at least one year
- Enrolled and taking classes during the semester of employment; or
- Not enrolled in classes for the semester of employment, but enrolled in the previous semester and enrolled for the following semester.
- Be in good academic standing
- Be at least 19 years old on June 1, 2025, pass a background check, and possess a valid driver's license
Expectations:
- Must have the patience, understanding, flexibility, and energy to work and live with campers and other counselors
- Must exhibit professionalism at all times while working with Auburn University faculty and staff
- Must be willing to sacrifice, adapt, and work hard as part of a team
- Must be able to take care of others and display a positive attitude at all times
- Serve as an ambassador for Auburn University and role model for all students
- Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Staff must be capable of physical labor (i.e. lifting approximately 20 lbs. or more)

Previous summer camp counselor experience or experience working with high school students. |
Pay Rate |
$450 weekly stipend. Housing and meals provided while each camp is in session. |
