I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
Located in the nation's capital, The George Washington University's School of Engineering and Applied Science (GW Engineering) is a rising, world-class school for engineering and computing research, learning and innovation. In the past 10 years, SEAS has greatly expanded its research and learning enterprise, facilitated by a 500,000 square-foot Science & Engineering Hall on our Foggy Bottom Campus that houses state-of-the-art research labs and facilities, as well as modern lecture halls and educational labs. We are a tight-knit community of faculty and students working together to shape engineering solutions to societal grand challenges.

GW Engineering is seeking a Senior Communications Associate, Outreach and Engagement to work with leadership and other constituents to communicate and market the School's initiatives, programs, accomplishments and goals in order to raise profile and awareness of the unit among the community, both internally and externally, and increase enrollments. This position leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of integrated strategic and tactical recruitment marketing plans for prospective students and develops plans, timetables, and budgets for current student engagement communications. This role will analyze online traffic and other analytics and develop actions to improve marketing campaigns and student engagement performance. This position reports to and works directly with the Director of Communications and Marketing, and regularly provides guidance to student workers. This role will ensure consistent communication with GW's desired image, brand and positioning throughout all digital communications campaigns.

Specific duties include:

  • Collaborates with student services offices, including but not limited to graduate programs, undergraduate programs, online programs and career services
  • Assists with recruitment marketing campaigns and personalized outreach campaigns via phone, email, text, notes, events, etc.
  • Provides communications and support for engagement programs for current and prospective students
  • Supports justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) efforts in engineering, especially to enhance outreach and recruitment and to promote a culture of inclusion
  • Supports the big vision for an active school life calendar
  • Forms professional relationships with students to build trust, rapport, and respect with the goal of helping them produce events that are safe, inclusive, successful, and reflect well on the institution
  • This role has daily interaction with graduate and undergraduate students and has a significant impact on the student experience for individual student leaders, as well as for the student body as a whole
  • Conducts student outreach related to authentic storytelling, event promotion, school announcements and internal and external communications to build community and amplify faculty expertise.


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
* Excellent writing skills.
* Experience working in an academic setting and/or working in a research/engineering environment
* Experience working on a multi-functional communications and marketing team.
* Demonstrated experience in supporting student activities with a JEDI lens
Preferred Qualifications:
Hiring Range $64,483.58 - $88,679.60
