Description

Seeking a Staff Associate I in the Single Cell Analysis Core (website: https://systemsbiology.columbia.edu/genome-center/single-cell-analysis-core) who will primarily prepare sequencing libraries beginning with project design through loading the sequencer, including any troubleshooting. The Staff Associate I will pilot new techniques for the core as needed, and will perform experiments on a weekly schedule as assigned by supervisor. The Staff Associate I will be expected to run most Single Cell experiments without supervision, but expected to check with Director if we receive a more difficult sample (about 10-20% of experiments wind up in this category).

Responsibilities and duties:



  • Knowledge and understanding of the field of genomics, in particular how the field supports the broader research of the Columbia scientific community. A special focus on single cell techniques. Interact daily with researchers to provide technical expertise. 30%
  • Apply analytical skills to help problem-solve with other staff associates and the Director. 10%
  • Works independently to design and execute projects with minimal supervision. Expected to show a medium level of initiative and independent judgement. 10%
  • Required to implement established protocols to support projects, using a comprehensive understanding of research techniques, software and instruments. 30%
  • Assist collaboratively research groups, explain complex information. Contributing in preparation of publications (manuscripts, funding proposals). 20%


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.
  • 1 year of related experience
  • Knowledge of pipetting techniques, running enzymatic reactions, documentation and sample tracking.
